Tom Ince set to become 1st signing of the summer for Tottenham

According to sources close to the club, Tom Ince has agreed to personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur this summer and a transfer fee between the clubs in considered a formality.

Tom Ince, the son of Paul Ince, a Manchester United legend has chosen Spurs over the likes of Liverpool and other Premier League clubs. The 21 year old winger will be joining from Blackpool where he has scored 18 goals and assisted on 14 in 43 games this campaign. He is a heavily left footed player but comfortable on either wing.

He looks to be a similar player to (dare I say) Theo Walcott. He plays very directly, meaning he is always looking to go right at goal and his main assets are his acceleration, close control, skill, dribbling and pace. He has a reputation of being a hard worker, at the centre of most of Blackpool's chances and putting in a shift tracking back also.

His fit at Spurs

Tom is direct competition and cover for Aaron Lennon. When Azza went down for a few games, there was clearly a void left and Tom is capable of filling that void. It seems that this summer, the goal is to finish clearing out Harry's men that AVB doesn't have a use for and replacing them with his own guys that he will feel comfortable rotating in. Ince should get 5-10 starts and allow Lennon & on occasion Bale to have a breather, particularly during FA Cup, Capital One Cup games.

He fits incredibly well into an attacking wing spot in a 4-3-3 which looks like another sign that we will be employing AVB's preferred shape next season. Tom is a goal scoring winger that likes to take on defenders and use his quickness to set up others as well. He is a very sound signing for us and at 21, has room to grow into a class player at Spurs.

You don't make any reference to Andros Townsend, who being right footed will actually be cover for Lennon. I would assume that Ince would cover Bale.

Townsend is all left foot you mug. Have you ever watched him play I dont think he knows he is allowed to kick the ball with his right foot

Could do with Townsend and Ince at the club. With Bale now playing behind the striker we are short on wide players for starting positions and for cover positions.

Townsend is indeed left footed. But he can use his right fairly well. He's played on the right for QPR while on loan. A wing quartet of Bale, Lennon for the big games & Ince, Townsend for the smaller fixtures sounds about right! WHEN WE GET CL, hopefully we will buy Benteke & Remy.

  8. We need more than one winger at this point with Bale playing more centrally in some formations. In a 4-3-3 with Bale-Damaio?-Lennon, it doesn't hurt to have options off the bench or in spot start situations. Tom Ince is potentially a class above Andros too...and theres Alex Pritchard and Christian Ceballos in the shadows so Andros' stay at Tottenham may not go beyond a year or two.

To the first commenter, no need for the birthday suit! It's going to happen this summer, keep your clothes on!

Just going to inform you all that this will clearly be a replacement for Gareth Bale, who will be off to play for a good team at the end of the season.

  11. A 'source close to the club' Righteo!
He would not be in direct competition to Lennon IMO either, a lot of his work is done inside. A very good prospect though

What are you talking about, Lennon plays on the right so getting a left footer is not going to be cover at all. Can your source within Spurs stop mucking about and get back to work, cleaning those toilets!

  13. Right, because AVB doesn't play with inverted wingers like Hulk at Porto on the right of a 4-3-3 and Bale the past few weeks after he switched to 4-3-3...

Feel free to be skeptical but once its announced, then remember you heard it first here at E-Spurs.

Marc... not that I doubt you or your source (I'm sure you'll understand I do actually doubt you and your source though, along with the other 5,000 people with sources inside the club) but I take i9ssue with the 'heard it here first' bit - been on about 50 websites on newsnow for tyhe last 3 days... it seems you've then picked it up and stated you heard from a source at the club...

Everything you say may be true... you'll understand, I'm sure, that as I actually heard it everywhere else first, then you're source tells you (after it seems it's already public). if you're right, then great, but certainly didn't hear it here first... and indeed right now, it looks like your source is actually newsnow... I hope I'm wrong and you're the one in a thousand that genuinely has a source inside the club, at least i'll know where to come for ITK in future.

  15. Everything in the news thus far has been speculative. The headlines are "Tottenham attempt to sign Ince ahead of Liverpool" etc..I am saying that the deal is done, hence heard it on e-Spurs.

I am not saying that I have a source in the club. I am relaying information that I read or hear and the information that I have is that personal terms are agreed and the fee between clubs is the only thing left to resolve. I only relay this information if it comes from sources that I trust and have a proven track record of being correct, not "ITK's"

I appreciate you reading E-Spurs and I am glad that you take part in the discussion. The best part about writing a post is the feedback. As a Spurs fan in the US, it is great to interact with others across the world and share our support and enthusiasm for the club. Cheers!

I think this would be a good move for Spurs, although I have friends who are Scousers who claim ITK (via Jimmy the shoe -shine boy) about him signing for them, too. So in truth who knows...especially as his dad used to play for them.

It would be a coup for us and a signing of immediate impact. He's left footed not right so would provide competition for that side rather than Lennon on the right (although he can play both wings) and since AVB moved the boy Bale inside we've lacked penetration on the left and with Townsend returning that only only offer more options.

We need to strengthen and provide more competition in key areas - LB, LM and CF with the potential o replace Bruce Willis as back up keeper. So this helps plug one of those gaps, just hope there's some truth to it.

Well, I think we should go for more youngsters. Old ones like Villa get injured too easily and young one tend to be a pace or two faster - key in Premier League. They are also keener and harder working vs those who think "they've arrived", who forget it's a team game and don't work as hard because they just bought their first Lamborgina etc.

Trouble is with all these oligarchs and others with pots of money, good un's are hard to get. These people forget it's not the money that counts but the glory COYS!.

I hope Levy doesn't pussy - foot around this time and buys quality youth at the sparra's and not wait until the grim reaper is just about to appear.
