Daily Dose Clash with Chelsea and Once Friends

Here we are, on the eve of a match between two clubs who have found themselves linked together in ways that transcend football. Tottenham and Chelsea, both London based clubs with plenty of hatred toward each other, two sets of fans who despise their counterparts and yet, we both possess managers who were once the closest of friends. Jose Mourinho and Andre Villas-Boas were once co-workers, both learning the tricks of the trade under Sir Bobby Robson at FC Porto, a club that became synonymous with both Jose and Andre, and now they face off against each other for the first time. We are all well aware of how the rift began between the two so there is no need to go through that back story, but what we will focus on is the actual matchup between two clubs who have very high aspirations for this season.

Welcome to Hell

I think it may be an understatement when I say that a good amount of Spurs fans actually dislike Chelsea more than our North London rivals Arsenal, this author is one of them, as they have constantly been a club that has taken much pleasure seeing their results destroy all of our good work. Case in point being the Champions League Final in 2012 with this Chelsea squad riding their luck all the way past a misfiring Bayern club and knocking our beloved Tottenham out of the CL. This was one of my darkest days. Just talking about it makes me want to hurl my computer at anyone who even mentions the word Chelsea. Anyway, we should try to exact a little revenge on them by smacking them around in our backyard and nothing would make this author smile more than seeing those classless Chavs on the receiving end of an absolute thumping. To make this happen, besides getting all our players ready for this battle and making sure that they work together and continue to gel, we need our fans to make as much noise as possible. No racism or profanity, just plain noise to intimidate the crap out of them. We know the Lane can get rocking and it typically does in these derbies, but we need that 12th man tomorrow to be as loud as possible.

Injury Reports

It seems that we will still be without the services of Younes Kaboul and Etienne Capoue but we may welcome back our first choice left back, Danny Rose, as AVB has stated that he is 90% fit, and that 90% is better than playing Naughton out of position. We may also have flying winger Aaron Lennon back in the fold as he is set for a late fitness test but I am sure Andre will not rush him back. Other than these few, we should have a full squad ready to rock. As for our opposition, Chelsea will be without the workhorse Ramires and new signing Marco van Ginkel as both suffered injuries during Chelsea’s midweek win in the Capital One Cup. The loss of Ramires is a huge plus for us as his work rate and determination in the middle of the park drives Chelsea forward, therefore, his absence may be huge for our chances.

Final Thoughts

I am sure that both managers will want to one-up the other as AVB would love to stick it right up Roman and Jose’s butts, to prove that he is the better of the two managers while Jose is also going to be up for it to show his former pupil who is the master. It may actually come down to substitutions and a change in tactics later in the match, something that both managers are very good at so we may be able to see a late stage chess match with the more successful of the two grabbing the vital three points and bragging rights. This really could go either way but I think with the backing of the crowd and a deeper squad with the high levels of quality we possess, I think we may just nudge it and send those Chavs home with nothing to show for their travels. This would be the ultimate justice for Tottenham, AVB and football. COYS!!!
