An article of two halves…Part Two

Article by e-Spurs Correspondent Mark French

As a lot of you have already said, silly season is here. The latest litanies of spurious speculations are:-

· Apparently Louis Van Gaal may not want Etienne Capoue at the Club. Louis van Who**? Last time I looked, OK admittedly that was over an hour ago, our Manager was called Tim Sherwood.

**Apparently everyone “expects” him to be our Manager in summer.

· Levy and Baldini are preparing the way for when Timbo leaves in Summer and making plans for buying and selling.

· Allegedly we are selling our entire team and buying a new one. I cannot believe the transfer rumour cobblers that people are writing. Most of it you couldn’t make up…oh no apparently most of it you could…..

· Despite our recent run of good form, sparked by or in spite of Mr Sherwood (hey that’s way too much of a coincidence for some of you!) a large portion of our support wants him out “because he’s not good enough”.

· A lot of these will be people who have criticised the numbers of Managers we’ve employed but who now want us to get rid of this one and get yet another one. Clearly a lot of you would like the Management-go-round to continue.

Let me pose this to those who already want Tim out. Let’s say he does what he was employed to do, gets us 4th place and a Champions League spot. He does this by utilising the squad we have, settling on his best 1st Team and substitutes, knowing his best replacements for injuries and producing the results we need against the other top 10 teams. Oh, and we play the Spurs style of football too.

Would you still want him out then?

If the answer to that is yes, then you should go support the Chavs or the *rse. You will not be satisfied with what we have and never will be.

Finally (breathe a sigh of relief) Whilst we have the Stadium capacity of WHL, we will struggle to break into the top 3 and until we upgrade we will always be on the crest and not over it. For reasons why, I refer you to my previous article which is part one of this.

So, whilst we have all of the Gooner trolls mocking us (nowt better to do I guess) because of our PL finishes and you responding, bear this in mind: - We have achieved our results over the seasons because of astute Management, purchases and sales - indeed this has allowed us to dream that we are potential Champions and a lot of you think we fail at this every year. We honestly don’t. We punch way above our weight. Our revenue is mostly down to our ground capacity and if you look at this I ask you what other club in the PL could do what we do? Before the Sheikhs money City couldn’t. Without the Emirates the *rse would struggle. Certainly not the Chavs before the Russian came along. Villa, Liverpool, Newcastle can’t do it with their ground capacities. The other teams who’ve had cash injections can’t do it either.

If Uefa and the FA EVER enforced Financial Fair Play, how many of the above would be able to maintain their current status?

If this is what we can do now, think what we can achieve with a new ground. THAT’S what we should be complaining about and focusing our attention on.

By the way, the transfer window shuts at the end of the week and I predict no players bought and no players sold.
