Despite completing the double signing of Michel Vorm and Ben Davies from Swansea only last week, media reports have swiftly moved on and began linking us to a number of different players. However, finally left backs across the globe are seemingly safe from our ‘grasps’.

Morgan Schneiderlin: Club: Southampton Position: Defensive Midfielder Estimated Price: £15 Million

We’ve all got to feel a little for Southampton. Losing the complete core of their first team squad, including their captain, strong centre half, last season’s leading scorer and two phenomenally talented full backs. But surely the exodus is over? Not if Daniel Levy has anything to say about it.

Recent reports have suggested that Mauricio Pochettino is very interested in a reunion with one of his best performers from his days at Southampton, and the player is equally as keen, reportedly handing in a transfer request, after the board refused to let him talk about terms with Tottenham.

The French midfielder has represented Southampton in League One, the Championship and the Premier League and was even included in France’s world cup squad in Rio, playing a full 90 minutes against Ecuador.

With reports linking Paulinho, Sandro, Etienne Capoue and Lewis Holtby with moves away from the lane this summer, reinforcement in this area may not be as un-needed as first thought, and few would be better suited and realistic as Schneiderlin.

Wilfred Bony: Club: Swansea City Position: Striker: Estimated Price: £19 Million

Speaking about raiding clubs for further assets, why not take a trip over to Wales for their Ivorian Striker, Wilfred Bony?

Dubbed ‘as close to Didier Drogba, as you’ll ever see again’, the striker fits the exact model of striker which we’ve been crying out for, for years; tall, strong, good in the area with a phenomenal ability to make chances for himself and bring others into the game.

The Ivorian joined Swansea from Vitesse in summer 2013, for a club record £12 Million. He then went on to show why Swansea made such a financial outlay to secure his services by scoring 25 goals in his first season at the club, which has resulted in him being linked to a number of clubs.

Personally, I don’t believe a striker should be our main priority at this moment in time, with I among many being hopeful that Robbie Soldado will drastically improve this season, whilst Emmanuel Adebayor will continue to be world class (when he can be bothered), and I have more than enough confidence in having Harry Kane as our third choice. Another point to consider is that Wilfred will almost certainly play in the African Cup of Nations in February, meaning we could potentially lose two strikers for around a month of the season, which is a factor which must be considered.

Eric Dier: Club: Sporting Lisbon Position: Centre Half/Defensive Midfielder Estimated Price: £4 Million

Reports have suggested that we are very close to securing the signature of young English centre half, Eric Dier, who currently plies his trade in Portugal for Sporting Lisbon.

The 20 year old, 6ft 2 Englishman can operate comfortably either at centre half or in defensive midfield, with the former being his preferred position. The self-confessed ‘Rio Ferdinand esque’ has been tipped to one day captain the national side, after featuring for all the nation sides from the U18’s to the U21’s, yet wouldn’t be expected to make the jump straight into our first team. Reports suggest initially he’ll be our 6thchoice centre half behind Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul, Vlad Chiriches, Michael Dawson and Zeki Fryers, but would feature heavily for our development side.

Now, after being linked with Everton, Newcastle and Sunderland, he appears close to returning to the country of his birth, despite never playing in the country before for a measly £4 Million. At that price, and with his experience in a different league, this could prove a very shrewd piece of business.
