Spurs into the Unknown

In a season where expectation is low, eager anticipation and curiosity are unavoidable. Tottenham Hotspur, entering the unknown, again! While we all await the results of new boss Pochettino and whether or not he can replicate the success he had last season, even while working with a considerably less talented group of players than he has now (on paper, anyway). Can he guide the misfiring millions that were spent last year to success? Can he get the best out of the 'average' players with all of this promised potential? Or maybe, eliminate the mistakes that were and are, as always ever present with Spurs teams over the years.

Hugo Lloris, you feel would have a key role this season. With his adventurous manner acting as the ‘sweeper keeper’ and the reminder that he has a top keeper waiting to jump in should he become complacent at any point. We will find out if he is, as thought, one of the world’s top keepers.

He must be confident that his new manager is going to make a difference after signing a new 5 year deal to keep him at the club. After all, he could’ve made the choice to jump ship at the chance of Champions League football elsewhere. Add that to the fact that Vorm is a good, reliable goalkeeper that won’t be content with just a cup run of games. This should provide the competition needed to keep Lloris motivated and consistent.

You can’t help that feel, aside from all of his faults and questionable decisions that he has made, Daniel Levy has played a big part in convincing Lloris to remain at the club. At least for one more season.

Perhaps he can even solve the ultimate mystery... Why did we spend 26 million on a penalty taker? The player with such a good goal scoring record in Spain can't score. Is it because he speaks very little English in a team of no Spanish speakers? Or perhaps, it’s because we insist on playing wingers that have to cut inside in order to use their stronger foot. In turn, making us narrow and one dimensional? We knew he wasn't going to run beyond the last defender and that he wasn't the physical presence that was going to shake off defenders when we bought him. However, if we could get in behind the opposition, provide crosses or cut-backs for our strikers and stop trying to force play through the middle. Maybe, just maybe, he will perform. As spurs fans over the years, we have come to expect expansive, exciting football and score a hatful of goals. Isn't this what everyone wants from their team? The reality is, if he can sure up a defence that has forever shipped in goals (with the exception of the first 10 games last year), while getting the most out of an underperforming front line, then we should be happy. After all, outscoring the opposition but finishing with a goal difference that has barely ever reached double figures isn't enough for a team aspiring to play champions league football.

This year, the neutral would most probably predict a 6th place finish for Spurs. However, with a bit of nurturing for players like Lamela, Townsend and Kane while re-enforcing the back line with pace and youth in Dier and Davies, the question that you must ask is…Why can we not make a push for top 4?

How was 8th successful ? Lets not forget Sherwood beat our new manager twice, as much as I would like to be proven wrong just cannot see anything good on the radar regardless of who's in charge. Just looks to me as if its a downward spiral now, I was never a fan of Redknapps but we're never gonna have football like that again because our players we have now are shit in comparison to what we had then, fact

I'm optomistic at the moment.Nicking the three points at the death from West Ham suggests something positive hanging over Spurs just now. Also lots of positives from midweek.Lets hope for the best ! COYS
