Tottenham Hotspur vs Bayer Leverkusen - Wembley Stadium
Kick-off: 7.45pm GMT on Wednesday

The sides played out a 0-0 stalemate in Germany in the reverse Group E fixture a fortnight ago, thanks in part to a wonder-save from Hugo Lloris to deny Leverkusen a certain goal.

The result leaves Tottenham in second place, a point behind leaders Monaco and a point above Leverkusen in third.

Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by champions Leicester on Saturday, dropping down to fifth in the table.

Bayer have had issues of their own lately, as well, but a 2-1 comeback victory over Bundesliga strugglers Wolfsburg may instill some confidence in their side.

They’ll likely look to Chicharito and Hakan Calhanoglu for any attacking inspiration, but they’ll face steep competition from a Dier & Vertonghen center back pairing that is rear-guarded by Hugo Lloris.

Poch Says...

“The problem is we don’t have time to train too much,” Pochettino said. “The priority is to rest and recover. We are watching a lot of clips and videos because it’s good for people to realise, but it’s more about mentality – to be aggressive with your energy. The players know how to shoot. Sometimes it’s more about freedom and when you have the chance to shoot, you shoot, rather than trying to pass and build the action more. It’s mentality more than work.”

What are the odds?*

Tottenham – 1/1
Draw – 13/5
Leverkusen - 13/5

The Stat Attack

- The match at Wembley is only the third competitive meeting between the two sides. Spurs are yet to lose to their German visitors on Wednesday (W1 D1).

- Bayer Leverkusen have only won two of their last 24 Champions League away games (D7 L15).

- Leverkusen are winless in eight away games in England, drawing once and losing seven times.

- Tottenham are on a five-game losing run at the new Wembley, including the 2-1 Match Day 1 defeat to AS Monaco.

- Three Bayer Leverkusen players rank among the Top 10 for tackles made – Benjamin Henrichs (12), Lars Bender (11) and Kevin Kampl (10).

Teams News - Tottenham

Heung-min Son will face his former side once again, though it remains to be seen whether he’ll place out wide or as the lone striker.

Toby Alderweireld has been a rock in the Tottenham defence over the past few seasons but the Belgian defender is still recovering from a nerve injury to his knee.

Erik Lamela missed out on Saturday due to illness but is expected to recover in time for Wednesday.

Eric Dier will continue alongside Vertonghen at centre-half in Alderweireld’s absense.

Teams News - B. Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen have a number of injury concerns, most notably Lars Bender.

He’s joined by Karim Bellarabi and Joel Pohjanpalo on the sidelines while Omer Toprak and Jonathan Tah face late fitness tests and Vladlen Yurchenko is doubtful.

Chicharito and Stefan Kiessling carry a notable threat in the attack and will be a handful for the hosts.

Our prediction: Tottenham 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen
