The way in which the players started the game, chasing every ball, looking eager for the win, was then cut down by a goal against the play. This could have been a killer blow, and if it wasn’t for our Frenchman in-between the sticks, they may have nicked the second and third. But something happened, something that AVB has installed into his team philosophy; the players reacted positively, and started to compete. It felt as if the team from last season go on and loose that game by 3 or 4 goals, which we saw happen several times last season, but this team on Sunday played their way back into the game.
At no point did I feel
Man City was out playing us, I felt that Dembele kept Toure on a
leash the entire game, and the whole team kept most of their players
quiet, except maybe Tevez. I am of the opinion that if Carlos was
playing in a white shirt, we win that game very comfortably, that was
how good he played first half, and that is what you get if you have a
top draw striker. It was all positives for Spurs; I saw Parker have a
shockingly poor game, he offered nothing defensively, and he helped
Man City when he was involved in out attacks; so slow on the ball,
and regularly makes the incorrect pass. Adebayor was his usual waste
of space, and Bale was not in that game until he popped up to
perfectly set up Dempsey.
But you know what,
right now, at this very moment, I don’t care about the negatives.
Right now, my Tottenham mojo is back, I have confidence in my team
again, I am optimistic of how this season will turn out and I
literally cannot wait for the next game. My optimism is reinforced by
hearing Mr G force is apparently worth 100 million, and the AVB to
Madrid rumours passed away with little to no impact. I also want the
incredible Hudd to play a major role in the rest of the season. I
love Huddlestone, always thought he was a class act, even if he is
immobile sometimes. Watching the game with my brother, a fellow Spurs
comrade, he said to me that Tommy coming on was a huge gamble that
will either go very well, or very wrong. I think he was justified in
that statement. But for me, Tommy gun has been coming on and playing
well in his last few appearances, with his range of passing and
quarter back style helping play in our attacking players. If Tom can shed some excess weight and turn faster that a cargo ship then next
year could well be his year to play as the deep lying play maker we
desperately need in the team.
I’m
going to end on this; looking at the fixture list I cannot tell which
two teams will get Champions League football next season. But what it
does say is that we have a great opportunity to be one of them, and it
will go to the wire, and you know what, this is what sport is about.

ReplyDeleteReally good assessment Antony. A few thoughts
ReplyDelete1. Adebayor is useless. No ball control. No desire. No urgency. Please leave. Let's buy a new target man.
2. BAE is playing as if he's gonna leave. Either we get Danny Rose back or we get a lew left-back with Naughton as an understudy
3. The lack of width was obvious with Lennon out. We can't operate without cover for Lennon so Townsend back from QPR please
4. Yes Big Tom deserves more time although Little Tom (Carroll) deserves more on-pitch time too. I think Parker is on his last legs. Hopefully Sandro will be back. I don't think Livermore is good enough.
5. The jury's out on Sigurdsson in particular and maybe even Dempsey. Dempsey never seems to score from outside the box and hesitates on approach of the box with the ball at his feet. As for Sigurdsson - I don't think he converts enough chances given the number of opportunities he gets.
6. Anyone got any thoughts as to whether some of our youngsters could get into the first team next season on a more regular basis e.g. Coulibaly, Ceballos
