Spurs have been circulating in the Italian press in the last few days with movement regarding Scott Parker and Franco Baldini taking centre stage.
Parker Out?
Reports leaking from Fiorentina suggest that they are
looking to strengthen their midfield this summer and the England midfield
enforcer is seen as an ideal replacement for David Pizarro who is set to leave
in this transfer window. According to corriere
dello sport Parker is valued at
around 6 -7 million Euros and although some may deem this as a fair price, when
we consider his contribution to the squad in a whole campaign, would it not be
wise to keep him around for next season as our 2nd choice defensive
midfielder behind Sandro?
Parker was
clearly fading towards the end of this Season, along with the rest of the squad
bar Bale and if Sandro would have been fit, who knows where we could have finished.
We cannot deny that Parker is a quality back-up player for a Spurs squad with
sky high potential and few can match his passion and commitment for the cause,
however, with Sandro we have the
modern day complete midfielder perfectly structured for the dynamic play found
in AVB’s style.
If we sold him we would inevitably need to replace him, my
question is who we can find who could offer more in this position without
breaking the bank? I say we shouldn’t break the bank because we are already
adequately covered in this position, in fact I believe we should shelve out a
few others as I believe both Huddlestone
and Livermore lack the necessary
attributes to succeed in our system.
With Hudd’s lack of mobility proving to be a liability and with Livermore
stagnating they should both move on now if they are to further their careers.Baldini in?
Reports coming out from Calcio fanpage point to Franco Baldini likely to move to White Hart Lane soon as Technical Director. They state that in the last few days Baldini has flown to London, which has been put down to reported interest from Chelsea and Fulham for De Rossi and Stekelenburg respectively. It has been suggested however that this trip corresponds to a meeting between Daniel Levy and Baldini with talks about a move to the Lilywhites set to be at an advanced stage. Calcio fanpage describes this as a real possibility due to the stretched relationship between Baldini and Sabatini as well as Roma’s American ownership and are prepared to say that he is ready to quit Roma for Tottenham. Franco Baldini is said to be an admirer of Andre Villas Boas and apparently was eager to have him appointed as Head Coach for the Giallorossi in the previous campaign.
AVB has already come out stating his admiration for the candidate as well as the dire need for a competent individual in this role so it looks as though we could have our transfer net cast out to various new markets if this does indeed come to fruition.
