Townsend considers Hodgson’s comments as a compliment, Derby want Dawkins and Lamela laments lack of first team football

Townsend considers Hodgson’s comments as a compliment:

Andros Townsend has decided to look at the positives on Roy Hodgson’s recent anecdote about sending a monkey into space.

The England manager joked about sending a monkey and a human into space to emphasise the need for Townsend to be used more in England’s 2-0 win over Poland on Tuesday.

Townsend has chosen to take the comments made in the half time team-talk as a compliment and is confused why the media are not focusing more on England qualifying for the World Cup.

"It has all been said now, it has been in the news the last few days and I think everyone should focus on us qualifying for Brazil and not focusing on negative, silly news," he said.

"The manager told the player to give the ball to me, so that is a compliment in a way."

Andre Villas-Boas echoed the midfielder’s feelings in wanting to put an end to the nonsense circulating in the press and on social media.

"Roy assumed his responsibility, apologised, there was no offence taken (by Townsend). It's the end of the matter," said Villas-Boas.

Derby want Dawkins:

Derby County’s manager Steve MacClaran is said to be interested in taking Tottenham forward Simon Dawkins on loan for the season.

Dawkins spent the season on loan at Aston Villa last season and has been training with the ‘Rams’ in a bid to secure a move.

MacClaran spoke to the Daily Telegraph about his knowledge of the young frontman and on the possibility of the loan deal going through.

"I know Simon very well. I very nearly took him to Holland with me when I was at FC Twente and he was at Queens Park Rangers for a couple of weeks when I was there. I know what he can do.

"He has come in and adjusted and there might be a possibility of doing something with him. We are looking at that."

Speaking on the likelihood of Dawkins arriving before Derby’s game against Watford at the weekend he said:

"Maybe. We will discuss that. We'll wait and see, knowing also we have got a few injuries and we are a little short of numbers in the squad for Saturday."

Lamela laments lack of first team football:

Eric Lamela has spoken of his need to play more football if he is to be in contention for the Argentina squad heading to the World Cup next summer.

Lamela arrived at White Hart Lane in a club record £30 million deal although he has failed to nail down a starting position in the side for the moment.

Speaking to the Metro he said:

"The national coach called on me when I was in Rome but now I’m playing in England and I have to adapt quickly.

English football is more physical and not as tactical as the Italian game, and I talk to my team-mates about that.

To keep my place in the national squad I have to make an impression for my club. Being with the national side is the dream for any footballer. "
