It’s Early but Adebayor Looks Hungry

Article By Nathan Durec

It’s only a couple matches, which means that it’s still early. But in watching Adebayor in the League Cup and his first league start of the season on Sunday, there is hope of something new.

In these two matches, Adebayor has grabbed three goals. He’s also been one of the hardest working players on the pitch. Who’s that heading the ball to safety on a free kick into our penalty area? Adebayor. Who’s tracking back defensively and trying to force errors in the opposition? Adebayor. Who’s making chances for himself rather than waiting for the ball to come to him? Adebayor.

This is not what many of us were used to after watching the tall Togolese player last season. His work ethic seemed non-existent and he was routinely seen going for a stroll on the opposition’s attacking half only half caring about what was happening in our defensive end. These past two matches have shown us a glimpse of what he is capable of, a glimpse of the Adebayor we had on loan from Manchester City.

To be sure, it has also helped having two players up front. Although play has been limited, the striking pair of Soldado and Adebayor has connected rather well. The fact that Adebayor is more willing to come into the midfield of the pitch and win balls, means that he is able to pick it up and move play forward to a higher Soldado who can then hold up the ball for players to crowd the box. Adebayor’s first goal on Sunday showed how this can work, even if the initial pass wasn’t picture perfect. Chalk that up to Adebayor shaking off a bit of rust from sitting on the bench for so long.

Two matches are not enough to say that he has changed. However, I think we can be cautiously optimistic of what we have seen so far. There seems to be a real desire to play for his position and a hunger to keep it.

Bit harsh, I just think he didn't care for avb (not alone there) and I think ade needs to be loved. He responded well to 'arry and it looks the same with TS. Hope so cos on form he can transform our season.

Ade plays when he feels love and is needed. AVB didn't like him never did. it was him that wanted Ade out of the club do you really expect a player to be at his best if his manager does not want him.. He is top draw proven forward and i would play him every week with soldado and watch us move on up the table
