This time next week

Article by Jason Nunn

I’ve just had my fix of Soccer AM. It’s not as good as it used to be, but it’s a laugh and its better than the usual mix of cookery shows right? I mean Frankie Fryers or James Martin ......it’s a no brainer, OOOSH!

So its City mid-week, we would take a draw if we are being honest. They are playing so well and their front 5 look pretty unstoppable at the moment. However we have had a good break, a few players back from injury and training is great news.

Now fast forward past Wednesday night and the looming transfer deadline day. This could well have more of a say on our season than any result against City. Good news is Chelsea are doing their usual and buying players that anyone of the top 6 are interested in and selling Mata to United is a stroke of genius, just for the comedy value of seeing the grumpy Frenchman down the road moan about it to the press.

So I do have concerns about us. Most of the rumours are focused on out-goings rather than any new faces. JD needs to be replaced, anyone who thinks Harry Kane can do a job is deluded in my opinion. We may be changing to 4411 but what happens if Ade or Bobby gets injured, and one of them is bound to if we don’t buy. Left Back, I could scream it from the roof tops but will anyone listen, it doesn’t seem so.Tim seems happy with his lot at the moment and is willing to let players leave it seems. Will Holtby go to Schalke leaving Draxler free to move to the neighbours? I assume Levy remembers the Ozil issue in the summer.

Everton are strengthening, Liverpool are looking too and have moved a couple of players on so as to free squad spaces, so I can see them getting a couple of players in. United haven’t finished spending yet and these 3 are our main rivals for 4th place I feel. So will Levy see this and think we need to strengthen? I’m not a Levy hater, far from it, but his decisions in this transfer window will define our season and actually show if he does indeed have the ambition to try and push for top 4 still this season.

Roll on transfer deadline day. I’ve booked the day off have the place to myself, so it will be curtains closed, Sky Sports on the TV, various news feeds on the laptop,Ipad for anything else and maybe a bible just to start praying if we’ve not signed anyone by 10 pm

I wonder why every time its apparent we need reinforcements in certain positions either the director manager or board seem to disagree or fail to look for what is needed remember after Carrick we eventually got Palacios but remember Berbatov for who Modric for who, Benoit for who, Bale for Lamela (but he will need time js as bale did)

Holtby wont leave Spurs for Schalke unless they match his wages, at Spurs, of £3.5m per year.

Holtby, is like most footballers, overpaid.

I always get frustrated when Spurs buy in 5+ players and ship out 5+ players in almost every transfer window. We never have any time to settle and get a rhythm going. I'd like if for once we just got in one left back and then shut up shop. Tim seems happy to let Lamela or Chadli play up top as a second striker when needed. The Eredivise and Serie A are not of the same calibre as the Premier League, but both of those two can score goals when given adequate time. I have faith in Tim, he's nobody's fool.
