The AVB & Anderton Effect

With a little time to reflect on yet another underwhelming (to say the least) performance, I think it's fair to say Spurs fans have got that all too familiar feeling that it's all going against us and there's even time for it to get worse...aside from our own problems, others around us are forever gaining confidence - Liverpool are roaring under Rodgers, the worst United team I've seen in my lifetime could soon be breathing down are neck, heck even Arsenal can smell a real trophy that's not '4th place'.

Though as I write this, I've just read via the Daily Express that Levy has pulled the wool over Woolwich's eyes and convinced our former Chief Scout Ian Broomfield to come back to the Lane after he looked set to join the Gooners since leaving QPR last week. If this is true, I for one am chuffed that not only have we got one over them lot, we've got back a man who brought in talent such as Berbatov, Modric and of course Gareth Bale, and after last summers spending, this may be very telling.

So, what's our problem?

It's not just down to one thing but let's point to the fact that in the league, we have only scored once in a game that we have lost (1-5 v City) and in the process shipped 26 goals in these 8 games...maybe it means very little or maybe it means the players have absolutely no character to claw their way back and at least fight for pride - yes I know this is the sort of statement synonymous with a team battling against relegation, however it's an evident issue, once we go down we usually capitulate (bar a few)...tis a season in which we find ourselves sitting in 5th, fairly comfortably with a zero goal difference.

We're used to being shaky defensively but now it seems the days of believing 'we'll score more goals than you' went with Harry - it's just not much fun at the moment. I can't see how Tim is the man to bring that ethos back - is anybody else finding it weird that we still play with the AVB tempo no matter what formation or team we set up with....what is going on in training?

But not all should be blamed on the manager - after all it is the players going out there and not putting there all in...is Paulinho really that scared of getting injured ahead of the World Cup? Sadly, I think so.

Sherwood was very damning of the nature in which we lost on Saturday, he's right...the gifts we gave Chelski were an embarassment to the professional status of the club, however, no, Jamie Redknapp it was not 'refreshing' to hear (Oh and Jamie, please stop declaring everything Tim says as 'refreshing'...it's just plain dimwitted), I'm with Hoddle - leave that in the changing room - by the looks of our lot, it will only rile some of our over egotistical personnel to the point of no return and with two big games coming up, maybe not too wise - then again it could be genius, it could even be refres....oh who can tell?!

Is Darren Anderton our new team fitness coach? They are all sick notes from injuries being picked up in games to mystery problems off the field. Where was Dembele yesterday? Why is our Danish playmaker on and off injured? Lamela...just come back and show us what you can do please, do it for yourself, your World Cup chances, do it for us the fans who have great hope in you. These our three of our best players who many would have thought could drive the club to new dizzy heights...it could still happen.

There's many of us Spurs fans that just want the season over and done with, so we can move on and get ready for the next season hopefully under a proven gaffer, but why I ask - why wish the season away when we actually could luck our way to the Europa League trophy. Yes the top 4 is realistically out of reach (even when we beat Wenger's boys next weekend) but the Europa League...call me mad but I think this could happen...we'll certainly have a better idea after Thursday night and the hosting of Benfica...I can't wait to go to this one - it's a top European fixture under the lights and us Spurs fans live for these sort of nights.

COYS! Oh and Wigan...
