On Friday evening I was sitting at home watching the TV when I received an obscene phone call. It was from a friend of mine Jimmy stating he had got a ticket for the West Ham and did I want it. Against my better nature I agreed. Now the reason I didn’t apply for one myself is that firstly I hate going to West Ham. Upton Park is a throwback to the 80’s especially the away end. I have never known a queue for the toilet at half time to actually start in the stands, which it did on Saturday. Secondly, I never thought we would get a result and I couldn’t really be bothered to have those Herbert’s at West Ham lauding over us, because we all know the games they play against us is all they have to look forward to every season.
But I went and for some reason I woke up yesterday like a kid again. I had so much excitement that I had to pause at one stage during my getting ready to tell myself “youre a 38 year old man get a grip son”. This leads me onto my first point about our display yesterday. I like the thousands of other fans at Upton Park showed more passion and desire then most of those players representing us in the shirt yesterday.
Hugo Lloris, as usual, showed his professionalism and personal pride with a brilliant performance while Christian Eriksen, while playing poorly, showed some effort in trying to make things happen. The rest of the team were a disgrace. I hate using that word about my own team but let’s not hide from the fact that they showed no effort in that game.
Kaboul was sent off again and while Rose’s normal poor positional play caused the chance for Downing, Kaboul showed little intelligence or calmness in the situation to react better. He didn’t have to bring Downing down. Paulinho, who I have fought a corner for, played like he was back on the beach in Brazil with his friends and clearly doesn’t want to get injured before the World Cup. But if that’s his stance he should be out of the squad. Aaron Lennon was on the pitch but I never saw him. I could go on but I think a lot of what I would say has already been said and we only have one game left so I’d rather speak of our current situation as a club.
Daniel Levy’s behaviour after AVB was sacked has astounded me. Levy has shown whilst being our leader that he is an exceptional negotiator. So much so that he nearly took the Lyon president over the edge when striking up a deal for Lloris. Jean Michel Aulas said at the time, “The negotiations with Daniel Levy and the Tottenham directors has been the hardest I have had to undergo in my 25 years as president”.
Daniel Levy has managed to get every penny into the club in transfer fees but I’m at a loss to understand how he has let Time Sherwood dictate to him. So much so that he has put the club in such a weak position. When AVB departed it was obvious that we would not have been able to get a top class manger in at that stage of the season. A six month interim was an understandable way to go. So why has he let Tim Sherwood force an 18 month contract. Some people have said the 18 month contract is the original terms of what Tim had remaining from his previous role. If that is the case then Levy and the club should have stated this to manage the expectations of Sherwood and the media. The situation would have been clear. If Sherwood didn’t like this he shouldn’t have been considered especially when we had Glenn Hoddle as a six month option.
What we have been left with over the last couple of months has been constant speculation about who is taking over as manager. This still would have happened if we had a manger in place for 6 months but it would have been accepted speculation. The 18 month issue has created a bad atmosphere around every press conference and this has encouraged so called leaks from Sky Sports sources (Jamie Redknapp) which has left the fans and the club in a state of embarrassment.
If Levy can be out manoeuvred by someone as inept and self serving as Tim Sherwood I have major concerns that Levy’s poor decision making regarding managerial appointments will only get worse and he is in fact losing his grip on the club. There were some fans at Upton Park yesterday who were not fully convinced that Levy would let Sherwood go after the Villa game. I can understand that but yesterday showed to me that the
players know Sherwood is going. Tim’s loose cannon approach to press conferences recently also shows that he knows that we know that he is going. Luckily we only have 90 minutes left of him in charge.
Sherwood can’t stay or can he?

there must be a clear out this summer, then start to re build. What happened yesterday was a total disgrace, several of the so called players on that pitch should never wear A WHITE SHIRT AGAIN!!! Starting with rose and also paulinho, this bloke is total crap and anyone who thinks differently is an idiot. What does he actually do? he is so slow, lazy, cannot pick a pass cannot tackle and constantly gives the ball away. can't wait for chelsea to buy him, hell just give him away!
ReplyDeleteAm I wrong, didnt we get hammered at home under abv,no dont be silly he is God couldnt have done. What was the score by the way?
ReplyDeleteI agree that West Ham love beating Spurs. But it's not our Cup Final, we just don't like you. So , in a poor season beating you 3 times has been brilliant. If you're looking for a new manager you're welcome to have Sam.
ReplyDeleteAny coach/manager will surely do better than Tim, he's team selection are shocking at best
ReplyDelete>"But if that’s his stance he should be out of the squad." Exactly !! Sherwood the "manager" should have briefed all his players before the match and guaged their desire. If players like Paulinho don't want to play (eg. for fear of picking up an injury before the World Cup) then don't select them in the first 11, its so f00king simple even a retard can get that. Sandro was waiting and willing to play so why not select him to provide a shield to Kaboul..Idiotically frustrating.
ReplyDeleteIt seems Tim is learning as he goes along and the team doesn't have a real style of play. Bring de boer in and more importantly let him do it his way and back him. Give him the conditions he wants. That's the most important thing.
