It's been a season of many low points and head in hands moments, but this season has also contained some unbelievable highs along the way. Those kind of highs that fill you with the kind of complete joy that only a dedicated football fan can truly understand.
Whether it's been the many last minute winners where we've managed to steal the game from the opposition's grasp or the moments of complete euphoria with the home wins over Chelsea and Arsenal.
I don't think any one of us could have forecast the dramatic rise of Harry Kane this season. From a young academy player who was seen as a decent backup and even surplus to requirements by some, into a formidable and feared Premier League star scoring over 30 goals in a season. He's been truly remarkable and his performances and goals this season will live long in the minds of all Spurs fans I'm sure.
Another highlight has been the emergence of academy players who have established themselves as key members in the squad. The likes of Mason, Bentaleb and Kane are players the White Hart Lane faithful can relate to and players that truly understand what Tottenham Hotspur means to us fans as a club. Who would've thought that Terry and Cahill, one of Europe's strongest defensive pairings, would be terrorised by a young 21 year old striker or that an experienced Arsenal midfield would be completely bullied by two academy products, Mason and Bentaleb. They're moments that make us Spurs fans truly proud and make the hairs on the back of our necks stand up.
Despite this season containing these memorable highs, there has been justifiable reason for moaning and discontent. Dull football, unacceptable home results and a leaky defence have been major worries for many Spurs fans. Although I agree that these factors must be improved for us to move forward, I disagree with the fans who want Pochettino to be sacked. I think many football fans in the modern day have developed an almost instant gratification mentality. High expectations must be met and fans must instantly be gratified and if not the manager must be sacked. I truly believe that as a football club we yearn stability. I'm sick of transition! A philosophy takes time to be implemented and as fans we need to be patient. So many criticise Daniel Levy for being so trigger happy yet call for the managers head after a few unsavoury results. We have consistently put out the youngest squad in the Premier League this season, a squad that is learning and adapting to a set philosophy. With time and stability comes consistency, something we all crave for with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
This summer promises to be a highly significant time for the club as it seeks to move forward. It's hugely important that Levy and Pochettino are on the same page with incoming players, and that huge effort is put into shifting some of the dead wood in the squad. I believe that with players that Pochettino can truly trust in his system, the more we can start to truly flourish. Our young team that is learning truly excites me. We have a player in Harry Kane who can change a game on it's head and give all of us hope.
Young stars coming through such as Dele Alli and Alex Pritchard will only add to the vibrancy in the squad and excite the fans.
This past season must now be accompanied by a summer of stability, correct decisions and patience. With these factors successfully implemented, I hope we will see the types of performances that make us all so ecstatic more consistently. One thing that will never change is the collective passion the fans share for this club. Views may differ but the love for the Lilywhite shirt is the same and is something that makes being a football fan so great. Let's hope next season is one that fills all fans with optimism and joy.
COME ON YOU SPURS.
