Spurs - the good, the bad and the ugly

Matt Tumminia disects the win in Wales and another scorcher from 'Gazza'.

Whew! Thank heaven for that whistle and with it, the three deserved points from a dreary visit to Wales. We really needed that and to be honest, we fully deserved it as we were rampant for the first 30 minutes in which we should have been 3 up, and then defended brilliantly for the frantic finale. Even during the final 20 of the match, we should have been able to get one more on the counter with Gareth Bale and then Jermaine Defoe going close. Regardless, we leave the Liberty with 3 points in the bag and head home for a mid-week European match against Basel. Of course, just because we won, doesn’t mean it was flawless. We will now look at some points during the match which I liked and the few that I hated.

The Good

-That Gareth Bale guy. He’s good.
-'Super Jan' may be my newest “man-crush”. Brilliant first touch on his goal, excellent distribution from the back, even mixed it up with Michu (who should have been booked twice for two simulations within 20 seconds) so as much as I love “Gazza”, Jan is MOTM for me.
-So nice to have Lennon back. Even if he had a mostly subdued match, he still presented a threat which Swansea paid close attention to, leaving gaps for Bale, Siggy and Moussa to exploit.
-Defoe looked lively in his 30 minutes. As did Holtby in his late introduction, even got carded for a heavy challenge, but made a real nice tackle to win back possession later.
-Demebele gliding past opponents is so nice to watch. It’s like he’s got ice skates while everyone else has lead boots.

The Bad

-Adebayor, gotta finish that chance. That is a goal for any other striker who has a bit of confidence, something that he seems to be severely lacking lately.
-Naughton at LB just doesn’t work for me. He is serviceable but not a great LB. Benny needs to step up and reclaim that spot.
-I am inclined to put Lloris’s injury in here, but I have faith in Brad (unlike most of the people on Twitter this morning). Hopefully Hugo’s injury isn’t serious as he really is one of the top keepers in the world.

The Ugly

-Adebayor’s hair. Seriously dude, what the hell is going on up there?
-Scotty’s nasty tackle late in the match. No need for that Parker, great match, but cut that crap out.
-Wales. I may be from Jersey (insert joke here), but damn, it did not look like a nice day up there.

Final Thoughts

A hard fought match and a great victory, one that was strictly for AVB. He set us up right and the players really do believe in him as they continue to defy expectations. Chelsea lost so we are back in third place, hopefully they have to go into extra time against United and then get beat up by the Russians this coming Thursday. Everton at the Lane is next for us and we need those three points to keep pressure on the other teams around us. Till next time friends, COYS!!!

Don't agree with the comments concerning Adebayor. I am not his biggest fan, but that was not a nailed on goal chance. The right move was a delicate chip over the keeper into the far corner; but he is clearly lacking confidence. I believe that when he hits the net again he will be ok.. As for the match analysis.. spot on I think!
