The Tottenham Transfer Roller-Coaster

Article by e-Spurs Writer Antony Moule (UK)

A roller-coaster ride starts with a lengthy and slow paced assent to the top, at which point; you will plummet back towards the earth at terrifying speeds. A great amount of tension is created if it is your first time on that roller-coaster; this is therefore perfect metaphor for what is happening at Tottenham Hotspur right now.

As Spurs fans, we all are buckled into this transfer window roller-coaster ride, slowing climbing towards the unknown. Our anxiety, caution and nerves are battling against our excitement, enthusiasm and anticipation of what will happen once we reach the pinnacle of our climb, and what will transpire on the furious journey through the fast loops and corners.

We are currently hearing news from Gareth Bale’s agent, explaining what a privilege it would be for the young Welshman to talk to Real Madrid, while at the same time, Real Madrid have spent the last week telling the world what a perfect fit Bale is to the Madrid team. This has cultivated into the Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, explaining that Bale is born to play for Madrid. This suggests to me that Madrid is, at least, slightly concerned over Barcelona signing Neymar. The best way to battle a Messi, Neymar Barcelona is with a Ronaldo, Bale Madrid.

Nothing concrete has happened yet, and this is what is creating the tension amongst us fans. The metaphorical rise up the roller-coaster is being created by the tentative situation regarding our most valued asset. This is what is creating the nervousness, the unknown situation regarding Bale. Do we sell? How much for? Can we stop it? Etc... We are also having issues deciding who we should sign. We are all aware of what positions we need to reinforce, and I have lost count with the amount of players we are linked with. Who will we sign? Are the good enough? How much for? Do we have enough funds? Is Daniel Levy going to spend? Etc…

Once we get to the top of this roller-coaster, which will most likely be in a few weeks, we will fall into a spiral of chaotic mess. We will experience either a thrilling and satisfying enjoyment; AVB and Levy doing what we believe to be required. Or we will experience a startling, insufficient turn of events, where we as a club, do not fulfil our ambitions this summer.

As for what we deem to be a successful transfer window, opinion is divided. If we keep Bale, sign the required top players, get rid of the dead wood, then the transfer window would be a success. However, we could sell Bale, buy several top of the range players and create a well-rounded squad. This should also be deemed a successful transfer window, but some people would still say selling Bale was a poor mistake. I for one am hopeful for one thing; let’s deal with the Bale situation as soon as possible. Either get him on a high paying contact, or sell him for stupid money. I want Bale to stay, I want to build a team around him, and I want him to lead a fight for titles for years to come, but I do not want a drawn out transfer saga. If we are to sell him, and it could happen, then let’s sell him, and milk as much money out of the situation as possible.

We are linked with some truly world class players, some of which would be ideal replacements for the welsh wizard, but we would only be able to afford such players if we did indeed let Bale go. No player is ever bigger than the club, but we are definitely going to experience a roller-coaster ride of a transfer window.

Look I'm a Spur's supporter since 1957-58 season, keep my fav.player!!Don't sell him as we will become a selling club. How dare these other clubs think they can ravage our players! This D.Levy is a disgrace if he lets any of our players go.We have to stand firm on this and move on to a greater height!
    Come on eeeee SPURS!

Oh ye of little faith. Bale isn't going anywhere, Damiao will be here by the end of June with another striker to start with.
