A Touch of Predictability

I’m still at odds on who we should purchase in attacking reinforcements. Benteke signed a new deal at Villa, ending any chance of us procuring him this transfer window. The news brought mixed feelings to me. I admit that I felt sympathy for Villa (had we not become the victims of player power with Luka?), so in a way I’m relieved that we did not turn out to be hypocrites by encouraging other players to hand in transfer requests so their club is forced to sell them and we have at least retained our dignity. We got Chadli which excites me as I have watched him and been impressed by him so it looks more likely we could play 4-3-3 with Gareth as false 9 come the start of the season, which wouldn’t be the worst move in the world.

The Bad news, yet another legitimate striking target disappearing of the Spurs radar. The amount of times this has happened is becoming ridiculous now so it is fair that we are all starting to panic. The solution now is we need to give Valencia whatever they want for Soldado, believe me he’s worth it even though we are supposedly facing difficulty and competition in doing so. Levy needs to get him in to appease the growing dissenters amongst Spurs fans who are becoming( fairly) dissatisfied with his unyielding approaches to transfers. I would like to point out that he has brought in some brilliant players through this system and am loath to insult or criticise Daniel Levy in any way as I believe him to be a great Chairman and he is one of the main reasons we have never faced financial instability like so many clubs around us. The problem is that it was a huge cockup last year not buying a striker as we were eventually pipped to the post again by Arsenal and if Levy does not get in at least 2 top draw strikers by the start of the season, I don’t think he can be forgiven this time.

I believe Levy must see the common sense of buying more strikers as he is a businessman and he knows that keeping his customers happy (AKA the loyal fans who buy merchandise, tickets and support the club in as many different ways as possible) is crucial to commercial success. Let’s not lie; Gareth Bale carried us last season. It is a fact. Despite praise being dished out to AVB and his tactics and new signings like Lloris and Vertonghen, the honest truth is that I worry when I think about where we might have ended up if he was not in the world beating form he was (by the way, I do not see us selling him this transfer window if anyone is curious on my opinion.) Levy knows this reliance on a single player cannot be allowed to happen again as it gives the club an unwelcome reputation (how often did we mock Arsenal for just being a one man Van Persie team?) and also causes worry and stress if he was sold or seriously injured.

So the big question now is who do we bring in? At least two well known goalscorers would go some way to appeasing most Spurs fans. David Villa and Benteke both seem destined for the Lane didn’t they? Villa was reported to have agreed personal terms and we just needed to sort a fee with Barca, next thing he is an Athletico Madrid player. Benteke seemed even more certain considering he handed in a transfer request and told everyone he wanted to move to Spurs and that we were the only candidates, suddenly he signs a new 4 year deal and the bitterness is felt all round.

My advice to Daniel Levy; Move fast. Hardly new or original thinking but I admit I am starting to worry over this striker issue. The fact is (even though pre-season means nothing) we managed to draw with Swindon and Colchester fielding relatively strong sides with one goal scored....by Gareth Bale. My recommendations would be Soldado and possibly someone like Papiss Cisse or Demba Ba. Cisse had a shocking season last year but he improved towards the end, plus he has fallen out with Newcastle over the sponsorship issue with it being reported Mike Ashley would rather sell him than lose out on a multi million pound sponsorship deal. With Ashley being a Spurs fan, would he be willing to sell him to us? As for Ba, bit of a long-shot really considering he only joined Chelsea in January. However, with Torres, Lukaku and other attacking options available to Jose, he could decide that Ba is surplus to requirements at the Bridge, I would certainly snap him up as he has a good record in the Premiership.

So Soldado and Cisse/Ba are my picks. Please let me know your thoughts. Who do you think Spurs should now sign now that Benteke is off the table?

Cisse and Ba blow hot and cold ... are they any better than Defoe and Adebayor?

Spurs Need a Quality Striker - Jackson Martinez is my choice as long as Gonzalo HiguaĆn is off the table. He does not have a New Contract with Porto and he Seemed Quite Interested when Napoli came sniffing recently. He would be an impressive physical talent to Spurs and the EPL! He has amazing body control and skill combined with power and an eye for the Back of the Net! Results would be Lots of Goals for Tottenham and that would Result in Wins and a much improved Goal Difference! Not Top 4 Place but WIN the League! Onward Spurs!

Torres is probably available but we can't afford to pay him what he's on now.

Im fed up. By the way, we have been waiting for the striker situation to be sorted for 5 YEARS.

Anyway, I am now at the point where I'm leaning towards happy with our back 4 and midfield,. If anything, I am now more concerned with departures!

I want to see Hudd Parker Livermore. (maybe a loan for Livermore, give him one more chance, but there were times last year when he looked woeful)

Maybe I would sell Dempsey along with the above 3 midfeilders, to raise money for a striker - this depends on 2 things,.

    1)Adebyor -
Can he be as bad as last year????? - I run a local saturday team, and, honestly, if my lads showed the sort of attitude, (AS WELL AS THE AWFUL TOUCH!!) that he did last year, they would be dropped. Full Stop. Let alone paid £100K PER WEEK. Its absolutely depressing.

    2) Bale -
Can Bale play upfront? - I don't know if he can or not, as I have to sell cars all week instead of hanging around a footy pitch training him, I know what I'd rather be doing!! - And it aint selling cars..

Ba is a good call,and/or Remy if he is not in jail.Levy will not spend that much on Soldado sadly, why cannot he realize that one striker can make a real difference.eg RVP for 23mill won the title for Man U and what was that worth!

If we were willing to pay £8 millions for 32 years old David Villa, we may as well pay £20 for the 28 years old Soldado. In my opinion we will have a striker who can score 20 plus goals per season and still have some re-sell value. In those three years time, so many things will change that we will even forget how much we bought him for. Just ask yourself did you think that Bale will be worth that much three years ago. Young players are coming through every year. Soldado is the instant success No:9 and the only option for now. Lets go for him, he is class and will score the goals for us for sure. I think we are going to shape up now. If AVB is going to play 4-3-3 he has the players now without that No:9 so buying someone like is a must and I firmly believe that CL will be easily achieved and the club will be looking even higher. Lloris, Walker, Kaboul, Verthongen, Rose, Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho, Bale, Chadli and Soldado - that's my first eleven for the season ahead
