Fixture Pile-up, More Eriksen Praise and Injury Updates

As we sit through another boring Saturday, forced to watch clubs of much lesser quality like Liverpool and Chelsea, we should stop and think of those less fortunate football fans who chose to support them. To try and say with a straight face that this Liverpool squad is a challenger for the title must require some extreme levels of drug use while listening to the words of the no longer “Special One” of how one of the best players in the world needs to adapt his game to fit into Mr. Mourinho’s game plan probably causes numerous fans to want to vomit. I am all for dreaming and having ambitions but there really should be someone around to temper these expectations and give some of these mentally inept fans a dose of reality. Brendan Rodgers is not the messiah, his methods are not the greatest thing since sliced bread and he is only a hamstring tweak away from being forced to call up 17yr old central defenders to cover. Jose is not as “special” as he used to be, Basel played them off the park in their own backyard and to alienate the club player of the year the past two terms is a case of being a stubborn jerk not capable of tweaking a system to make room for a player of immense creative qualities. Now that that is all settled, let’s focus on the news that concerns our beloved Tottenham Hotspur.

6 Days of Hell

Maybe the subtitle is a little dramatic but 3 matches in 6 days is a concern. For the modern footballer, it is imperative that these young lads are able to get at least two days of rest/ recovery before playing again. Forcing a club to play a cup match two days after a league match is asking for trouble, possibly a few unnecessary injuries as well. Yes, we do possess a lot of squad depth and the entire group is quality but was it really impossible for the cup match to be pushed to Wednesday? The answer to this query lies with the schedule makers and the cup sponsors so that they can have an intriguing matchup between two top-flight sides to broadcast. We have already seen 3 of our players go down during our Thursday match against Tromsø and although two of them are likely minor, the injury to Danny Rose may cost us over the long run. Do we have enough quality to compete in all competitions and win these next two matches? Definitely, but there may be a new casualty or two come Wednesday due to these matches in quick succession.

Cold As Ice

That may be the best way to describe our new Danish playmaker. He is cool under pressure, never looking like he is going to even break a sweat yet able to dictate play and cause havoc with a simple flick of either of his feet. Christian looks quite the player and although we have only seen a little more than 100 minutes of him, we all see a technical ability unmatched by anyone in the squad and a vision that we haven’t seen at the Lane since a diminutive Croatian left for the glamour of Madrid. His goal on Thursday was an absolute peach of a strike, yet he looked like he wasn’t even impressed, as if to say, “Yeah, I did that” and go on with his day without batting an eyelash. Quality personified and class embodied. This picture says it all.

Health Rundown

As mentioned earlier, the injuries to Younes Kaboul and Moussa Dembele are minor and both players should be available for selection on Tuesday, maybe even Sunday for the trip to Cardiff. Danny Rose, on the other hand, may be out for an extended period of time depending on how serious his muscle strain was and how he responds to his treatment. AVB has stated that it may not be too serious but as left back is one of the positions that we do not possess a great deal of depth at, Rose being out for a few weeks could lead to other players being rotated more often than first expected. Aaron Lennon and Etienne Capoue, foot and ankle, are both out for the next two matches as they continue their recoveries while new signing, Nacer Chadli has been able to participate in training and should be available for selection this weekend.

Thanks for reading everyone! Let’s get those three points tomorrow! COYS!
