Following a convincing win over Tromso in the first Europa League match, Spurs face an Anzhi team who have been somewhat stripped of their best assets, following the breakdown in enthusiasm of their billionaire owner, Suleiman Kerimov. Perhaps hopes of a different Russian billionaire’s football empire collapsing have been raised. As a result of key players being sold, Spurs will be up against a team that has failed to win a game in any competition this season.
Despite this, Spurs will have to travel over 1500 miles to play their Russian hosts, and the effects of travel may have as significant an impact as their opponents. With another London Derby against West Ham to look forward to on Sunday, AVB will hope for another professional performance without injury.
Possible Line-Ups
Younes Kaboul could again replace Jan Vertonghen for the midweek match, although his fitness appears to be an ongoing problem. With Spurs facing West Ham on Sunday, the game could provide another opportunity for players to impress. It remains to be seen whether Jermain Defoe will carry on his Europa League involvement, or if Roberto Soldado will be given a chance to boost his confidence.
