And Breathe

Sign our petition HERE - a vote of no confidence in Levy/ENIC

Firstly, before I get into the meat of this piece, I fell I have to do something, state something. It may be obvious but I feel compelled to do it and that is to thank and praise the Mrs for hiding all of the sharp objects and the bottle of Grey Goose I could’ve got myself lost in, oh and the Spurs fans at Anfield yesterday. They were amazing. In the face of one of our worst displays in years they could see the bigger picture, apart from Jan (bye bye btw) they knew the blame wasn’t with the players but with the club in general, and in particular the manager, the man at the helm, the man in the dugout giving the players instruction and encouraging them whilst giving tactical advice. Oh wait, no stop, sorry ours doesn’t do that, he’s so good that he can sit and manage from the stands just like all the good managers do. You know the top managers such as Fergie, Ancelotti, LVG, Jose, Arsene, Rodgers and Mancini. You always see them managing from the stands don’t you? You don’t? Oh well, that’s why their teams always played so poorly then, don’t they know anything?! When fans are chanting “where is our manager” while he is sat in the stands, shrugging his shoulders and on his phone you know you have a problem.

So we are all transported back a few months to our last loss to Liverpool, all be it a 0-5 one. Rumours of the dressing room being lost, a player revolt and a manager who seemed emotionless and powerless to stop and change anything. A Monday morning meeting with the chairman and fans crying out for a change of manager. Finally, the news coming that AVB had lost his job and spurs were again adrift at sea with no foreseeable direction, drifting into mid -able obscurity. Does any of this sound familiar? Well if it does it’s because this has been happening for about 13 years now.

The issue at Tottenham isn’t a Tim Sherwood issue. Let’s be honest, I have no coaching badges what so ever, but if Levy called me and asked me to manage Spurs I'd jump at the chance, we all would, and we would all be sacked within a few weeks I’m sure. So why for Christ sake did Levy appoint someone without the relevant skills, experience or qualifications? Ok, it was the easiest, cheapest choice but that doesn’t make it the right choice. You wouldn’t go to the dentist for heart surgery would you?

Tim may have been the quick fix, a man to hold the reins until someone better was available, but was he any better than AVB? I’d say not, at least AVB had coaching experience. He had served his time learning and qualifying in the correct way. I’m not saying AVB shouldn’t of gone, I have no idea what was going on behind closed doors, I’m just saying that if he did have to go then shouldn’t the chairman of made a better appointment.

There is a pattern at Spurs and that pattern has been in place since the arrival of ENIC. Yes, they probably saved the club at the time, yes under them we achieved CL football once, just the once, but the man that they put in charge of OUR club has now had around 13 years of making the wrong decisions when it comes to appointing a manager. However, every year the man turns a profit and sadly, my fellow supporters, that is more important than anything else in the modern game. Please don’t be fooled as the owner and his cronies sail around the Caribbean in their yachts that they give a damn if we finish 4th or 10th. They will care when and if they don’t make any money, but with a chairman who is all too ready to buy low and sell high that’s never going to happen. Levy is going nowhere, I’ve signed the petition out of principle and in the hope it may change something but I fear it won’t. Levy is here to stay so long as the money rolls in.

The fact that we probably wasted about £70 million of the £100 million spent means nothing as it was all money from the bale sale, no one actually had to bank-roll anything, truth be known we more than likely ended up breaking even after spending what we did, making a profit from the sales of Bale, Caulker etc during the summer.

No matter what happens in any meeting between Levy and Sherwood, and if we finish Monday with a caretaker in charge, I know two people that will walk away from this blameless in the eyes of the board, and that’s Levy and Baldini who in all reality are the instigators of this whole sorry mess.
