Well who would’ve thought that pop music could be so prophetic?
Was it not the Bangles who sang Manic Monday? What about the all-girl Irish trio that were B*witched and their song Rollercoaster.
Both songs sum up perfectly this week so far for supporters of Spurs. What a Manic Monday it was and let’s be honest life as a spurs fan has always been a rollercoaster.
Greeted around lunchtime with breaking news on sky that Tim Tim nice but Dim would not be staying beyond the summer. My instant thoughts were of joy tinged with a bit of oh well here we go again, more uncertainty, let’s be honest that uncertainty has been in place ever since Levy sacked his first manager. If Tottenham lack anything it’s always been cohesion in the last 13 years or so.The silence for WHl was deafening at first until a brief statement said meeting will take place regarding Tim's future at the end of the season. Social media was awash with where the story of Tim's departure came from, including Tim himself. Various pundits doing their usual hatchet job on spurs by saying how wrong they were to release this information on a match day etc. Saying it was going to play into Sunderland’s hands, it would leave us adrift with no direction blah blah blah.
Well there was a little matter of a match and after the 1st goal went in I think we all thought the worse but it wasn’t to be and a world class performance by Eriksen dragged us kicking and screaming to a good performance all be it against a god awful Sunderland team.
After the game, rather than praise Spurs for the performance, most of the internet was awash with the rumour that LVG would be announced as the next Spurs boss within 48 hours, I’m still waiting for that by the way.
Every fan has an opinion on what players, manager and system we need, and that’s what football is all about. My opinion well I just crave stability within the club from top to bottom. Manchester United were on the verge of sacking Fergie years ago, they didn’t and look what happened. Our neighbours in red, they go along winning nothing which is great but consistently qualify for CL football, because no matter how many times the fans may moan about winning nothing the board back the manager and they have that core stability.
Barcelona under Pep Guardiola had that same stability, even when getting outdone by Real they kept faith with the man in charge. These teams had long term projects going on and the board were clever enough to stick with the man tasked with leading that project. We constantly hear every time a new man takes over that this is the start of a long term project but we never stick with the man tasked with starting that project. Now if that’s the wrong man then he shouldn’t have been given the job in the first place we all know that and that is where I think Levy is to blame. The man has got the club to a very good place financially and that is one thing we should never forget, but if we have that stability now then maybe that’s where some fresh blood is needed.
I don’t really care who the next manager is because it doesn’t matter who I want to be in charge, my opinion counts for nothing. If it’s to be LVG then ok I will be happy with that but more importantly if it’s going to be with a project then stick with the man for a couple of seasons at least. Stability within the club and the squad is what we lack; the cohesion is what makes a team a team. Maybe my opinions are a throwback to a bygone era when football was about being a team, but I’m sure this week is just the start of another rollercoaster ride.
