Levy’s Round………Get on De Boers, Son!!

OK, OK maybe we shouldn’t get too excited just yet, but it seems highly likely that the Ajax man is readying a move to N17, all the signs are good, FdB has been talking up the club and has issued the ‘come and get me’ plea to the Spurs board.

Now this is either a very sly tactic by the Dutchman to gain interest from another potential job that he holds interest in, or the guy genuinely wants to put a mark on our club, one thing for certain, the board need to get this guy in for a meeting with his agent and get negotiating, I said back in my previous blog ‘the future is white…..the future is lilywhite’ that FdB was my second choice behind LVG, who looks a Cert to be the next United Manager, having previously worked with our player of the season Christian Eriksen (some would argue Lloris) and Vertonghen who has looked a shadow of the man he was last year FdB would of course be a fantastic appointment

That Statement

Let me remind you of the statement ‘We have NOT contacted any club regarding coaching appointments’ –Tottenham Hotspur April 29th 2014

When did Spurs ever contact Sevilla in the chase to appoint Ramos? It was done in a hotel in Seville; the club denied meeting Ramos until Spurs director Paul Kemsley and Secretary John Alexander were pictured at the same hotel as Ramos in Seville. Jose Maria Del Nido, president of Sevilla threatened Spurs with contacting FIFA for tapping Ramos up, so do we believe that we have contacted NO club regarding coaching appointments on this occasion…. I’ll let you decide…….

How many times have we heard the Club say that they do not respond to rumours regarding player transfers and they will make announcements when needed, the fact they have changed their stance with the need to release this statement tells a thousand stories in itself.

If indeed these stories are true and we are soon to see FdB holding a Spurs shirt up at Hotspur Way, all smiles with a done deal, or if its Mauricio Pochettino who has also been linked recently, or if the club throw in an absolute surprise and appointment somebody else, we must all be behind the new man, give him time to bring in his backroom team, sell the players he thinks are not suitable for his team and back players he buys to fit in, EVEN IF WE THINK HE MADE THE WRONG DECISION. It is imperative that we give the next man time, at least 2 full seasons to prove his worth, whether it means we are top four, top eight, top ten or survive by the skin of our teeth, Rome was not built in a day, we can’t appoint the new guy and then think at Christmas ‘well we gave him 6 months’ nobody won a trophy from August to Christmas, nobody has qualified for Champions League or Europa League at Christmas.

People will argue I haven’t given Sherwood time to prove himself with suitable time to get it right and I understand the criticism I may get for it, but I’d like to remind you that when he took over we were still competing in 3 cup competitions and were on course for potential top 4 finish that we crave, if you wish to continue watching performances like those away at Norwich and West Brom then that is entirely your choice. Tim Sherwood was nothing more than a stop gap and in my eyes was a glorified PE teacher.

Two things for certain………..Tim Sherwood will be replaced and the most important thing is I truly believe this Is Levy and Lewis last chance to get it right for the Club.

Who are you backing to take the club forward?

Would you be happy for Frank De Boer to be our next manager?

So long as we can get the average Spurs fans to give him time (you know the ones who believe whatever the papers tell them) he will be fine.

Spurgatso....you've lost the plot mate. De Boer sets up his teams to play attractive attacking football within a defensive high line system. When he took over from Martin Jol at Ajax in 2010 a few months into the season, they had not won the Erdevisie since 2004, and in under a full season, he turned them around and won the league. A feat, which he has repeated three times since for a total of 4 league titles, a feat not done by any prior Ajax manager including LVG. The comparisons to Seedorf are completely irrelevant. So what has the "bloke in charge" delivered since taking over from AVB? Disjointed football. An inability to man manage, having lost more than half the dressing room. A change of tactical formations/systems and personnel from game to game. Oh by the way, he does not have his coaching badges! Every time he opens his mouth in front of the media, the entire organization and more than half the fans want to punch him in the face. Oh yes, he's a peach your Timmeeeh. The problem with Tim is he is not self aware enough to understand that he is not yet ready to manage a team of the size and ambitions of Spurs. There are no short cuts mate. Brendan Rodgers has been coaching for the better part of 20 years, with a good many of them in the lower leagues and then under the tutelage of Mourinho at Chelsea. he then managed Swansea for a few years. It took him a year o figure things out at Liverpool. Had TS shown a sense of knowing what system he wants to play or an ability to adjust opponents tactically or shown some ability to shroe up our leaky defense or most importantly given a sense that the players respect and believe in his abilities, then it "may" make sense to have gambled with him for another year to see what he could do with this current squad. But he has given the organization and the fans very little reason to show that trust in him. So enough with the inexperienced and untested. Yes DeBoer has not been at this that long (Youth coach since 2004 and First Team coach since 2010) but he has demonstrated an ability to organize and motivate young players and get the best out of them and to develop a winning mentality in his players which has resulted in 4 league titles. The one major risk is that he has achieved this in a less competitive league. He is untested in the PL. I would suggest to you that TS was given his test and failed. If he were smart he would become a first team coach in the Championship and develop his system, style, man management and PR skills for a number of years there and that would put him in much better stead to come back as a PL coach and have a proper chance of making a run at things. The loyalty shown to TS because he is a British manager and the finger pointing at the presumed bias the fan and media have for foreign coaches and against British coaches is utter rubbish. The bloke is just plain inexperienced and not yet ready to lead a team of Spurs' caliber. Period!

I think that if Spurs appoint FDB then we will be a very serious contender for a title within two years. I watch a lot of Ajax with my kid because they play a style of football that is so tactically impressive. This year they have won their fourth straight title with a team devoid of any superstars, but play a total team concept. If you go to the web log "Think Football" you can read a series of articles on FDB's tactics at Ajax that are excellent. People also forget the job FDB did with the Netherlands team in the 2010 world cup as an assistant. Many of the players said that he was instrumental to there run to the final. Frank, if given the time could have a huge impact on the club.
