The furore around Pochettino finally signing for the mighty Tottenham Hotspur has settled. As we relish and say goodbye to one of the greatest World Cups I have seen in my lifetime, it is time to get down to business with another Premier League season with Spurs.

It kicks off for us with a pre season tour in the USA that has bred an expectation and intrigue with a new expansive and exciting coach. Thus it seems that Pochettino has garnered a much larger interest in this pre season tour than others before them. It gives us, the fans a chance to see who can step up and make a position their own, it allows us to view and see if Poch has had any immediate effect on the formation and style. Most importantly it allows Poch himself to see who can be a match winner, who will push hardest and who will be passionate to play in a Tottenham shirt under him with his methodology.

As it is pre season tours and friendlies mean much to nothing, you only have to see the 5-1 demolition of Roma, which preceded our worst start to a season in Premier League history. However, I for one will be keeping a watchful eye on each game to denote improvements in players and the use of various tactical systems. Defeat in any games (probably comically) should not deter your mood as these games mean little and no one wants to be injured going into a needless 50/50 before the season begins.

As confidence seems to be such an issue with many of our players, it is a platform for them to gain some before the season begins and it will certainly be refreshing seeing many of our new (old) players with fresh starts.

A season in a gruelling Premier League is precisely what they had last season, and it is almost like having new signings after their less than impressive debuts.

This is certainly the case when referring to Holtby, Lamela and Capoue who each have delectable strengths that spurs and Poch can coax to hurt teams. If players like Lamela can have a good pre season and gain some much-needed confidence in the USA, the coach and fans alike will be licking their lips in expectation in the build up to the Premier League.

Bar a few weak points in the team, such as Left back, centre back and a striker we are in a strong position. Arguably centre back can be solved providing Vertonghen stays and Chiriches and Kaboul can have a solid season. The same can be said about our striking options with Soldado, now expected to have a good season (Please Bobby, just stick it in). As it comes down to the first few weeks of the season I’m sure pre season tours and games will long be forgotten, a distant speck on the timeline of football. But for the moment Tottenham need to use this experience to gel, adapt and conquer.

….Stay frosty. COYS.
