Mauricio Interested In Workers Not Shirkers

Article by Bethany Surridge

This past season has been (yet another) up and down season for Tottenham, with some exciting wins against big clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal. However, Pochettino is clearly far from happy with certain players, planning to get rid of them in this upcoming transfer window. Is this the boost Tottenham need in order to gain a Champions League place next season?

Players such as Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado and Paulinho are amongst the many that have proved to have had a poor season, scoring 8 goals between them. However, is this poor form to blame for the lack of silverware this season?

Many fans have had enough with the lack of passion demonstrated by these players, wanting some fresh legs added to the team to give them the boost that they certainly need to gain a Champions League place and maybe even finish above Arsenal.

After Gareth Bale’s departure Tottenham saw £86 million come their way but did not spend wisely. Only Christian Eriksen and Nacer Chadli have impressed Pochettino this season, with the rest of the signings set to be moved on this summer.

Chairman Daniel Levy is ready to drop the ‘lazy’ and ‘deadwood’ players and inspire the manager into signing young players with potential that will happily play to Pochettino’s style and standards.

However, the manager may find it difficult to get rid of the more senior players such as Emmanuel Adebayor, as interested clubs such as West Ham and Aston Villa are unwilling to match his wage bill. Therefore he is determined to stay at Tottenham and fight his way into the starting line-up in order to earn his high wages. The club are therefore more likely to let him go on a free transfer (even though he has one more year left on his contract) so his high demand for dear wages are more likely.

Pochettino has reportedly been told he must sell before he can buy in this summer’s transfer window, where he is keen to bring in money to sign a well-needed striker and centre back.

Despite the poor form of Roberto Soldado, only scoring 2 goals this season, clubs are still interested. It is believed AC Milan are interested in signing the Spaniard who has certainly struggled for goals in this season and the last.

Additionally, Brazilian Paulinho is set to be dropped from the squad, however many teams from Brazil are happy to sign him permanently or even on loan. Many clubs in Brazil have been made aware of the midfielder’s availability.

So, is the summer transfer window one to remember for Tottenham? Let’s hope they can clear out all the deadwood and bring in players that can secure a Champions League spot, and make them serious contenders for the title in a few seasons time.
