Stoke City vs. Tottenham Hotspur - Venue: The Britannia Stadium

With games running out, it's an opportunity Spurs simply have to take now that Leicester need a maximum of eight points to become champions.

However, it is the Britannia Stadium and, even though Stoke lost miserably at Anfield last time out, their home ground remains a daunting venue for the leading clubs.

In fact, the other members of the Premier League's top five have all failed to beat Stoke there this season.

Finally the 15-year hoodoo at White Hart Lane ended and in some style in that 6 minute blast. It felt like the title race was totally irrelevant on the day, the enjoyment came purely from finally getting that home win. It’s been great to see daily re-runs of the game throughout the past week. Only the Chelsea away hoodoo, and finishing above our South London rivals remains to be broken.

Stoke away, a fixture described as ‘difficult place to go’ has seen us win 4 of the 7 Premier League fixtures. The very first year’s 1-2 defeat saw Bale & Dawson sent off, Corluka stretched off, and Gomes crying. It turned out to be Juande Ramos’ final PL game as manager. Then came Harry to rescue us with just ‘2 points from 8 games’. Bale gained some revenge with one of his best goals in a Spurs shirt, a stunning left foot volley, Eider Gudjohnsen scored the winner in our CL qualification season, and more recently, we’ve had Danny Rose with a headed winner. Last year was the chaotic 0-3 defeat, with Fazio & Chiriches awful in the centre of defence Vlad thankfully eventually sent off after which we actually improved, and playing 4 central defenders as Dier & Vertonghen played as full backs!! Charlie Adam scored and took pleasure in celebrating directly infront of our fans and lets hope Poch doesn’t have any tactical plan this year along the same lines. I’m sure he won’t.

Stoke’s home form has been mixed, W7, D3, L6 and Stoke themselves don’t always play well on those cold wet windy nights that the media has us believe happen throughout the season up there!

Many have complained about us playing on Monday’s, if we are truly focused on ourselves, it shouldn’t matter. We have to win regardless of what day the game is, and when we take to the pitch we shouldn’t be thinking of any other club, or result. Don’t allow Monday’s to be an excuse.

Hughes has done much work to change the image of Stoke, with the nickname Stokelona being born! They are still just as rugged at the back, still the same threat from set-pieces, and still as niggly with the fouls they concede to regain their shape when the other side has the ball, although we ourselves have learnt the art of this!

Stoke had a horror show at Anfield last week, losing 4-1 and reverted to Crouch up front, in the absence of Arnautovic. Hughes will demand a response, and I expect him to get it, at least in the early part of the game, and it’s up to us to gain control quickly, get through the inevitable 10-min spell on the came where we come under pressure, and if we do both, as I expect us to do, I’m confident we’ll go on to win the game 2-1/2-0.
