Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham

Article by Lovepreet deol

'Tim Sherwood sacked as Tottenham manager' Ah, the words 'Sacked as Tottenham Manager.' The words every Spurs fan has been used to hearing, for years and years. Be it Juande Ramos, Harry Redknapp, André Villas-Boas or Tim Sherwood, the sacking was all but inevitable. It was an interesting wait, seeing who Daniel Levy would next appoint as Tottenham manager and quite frankly, it was interesting to see how long the new manager would stay for until he got sacked. We were linked with managers from Holland in Frank De Boer and managers from England such as Mauricio Pochettino. It was quite an anxious wait. But wow, it was worth it. Tottenham announced that their new head coach would be Mauricio Pochettino. Honestly, most people did not want him at first as they did not think he was good enough and would have preferred someone like Frank De Boer.

Mauricio had a decent squad when he joined. In his first season, he took us to the League Cup Final at Wembley and gave the fans some memorable victories such as the 5-3 against Chelsea on New Year's day and of course, that 2-1 victory against Arsenal. However, the squad just did not seem right.

After an impressive first season, the second season of his reign began and this was the season where Mauricio could show what his capability is. After getting rid of the deadwood in Younes Kaboul, Emmanuel Adebayor, Vlad Chiriches and Paulinho, he bought in some quality signings. These consisted of Toby Alderweireld, Heung Min Son, Kieran Trippier and Kevin Wimmer. They all flourished that season, not only that, we had a positive net spend in the transfer window.

That season brought so much joy. Tottenham were not that same old weak club in the Premier League. This was the new Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham. High pressing, resolute defending, scoring goals for fun. Even though we did not go on and win the league, we still got the Champions League spot we craved for since 2010/11. Pochettino turned our players from average to superstars. Taking Danny Rose from an average left back to the best left back in the league and now an England regular. He took Dele Alli, a 19 year old from League one, to one of the most exciting talents in Europe. He has managed to take Harry Kane (who had already impressed) to become one of the most fiercest strikers in the league. His cunning decision on converting Eric Dier to a defensive midfielder was an incredible one, but a decision which brought so much success for us. We had the best defensive record in the league that season, we had the youngest squad in the league and we had the most goals scored in the league.

This is just the start. This is the new Tottenham. With the new stadium on it's way, with a young exciting squad, mentored by a terrific individual in Mauricio Pochettino, the future could not be any clear. The future is Lillywhite, the future is Tottenham.

Who wrote this - Pochettino's mum? We finished third in a two-horse race last season (behind Arsenal yet again), and are currently fifth, and in serious danger of exiting the CL at the first hurdle. Pochettino's transfer triumphs include Sissoko, Fazio, Stambouli and N'Jie, and without the simultaneous collapse of all the usual contenders, we'd have been pushed to make the top four last time, let alone win the thing. We've been pretty much flat-lining for six years now (Pochettino managed one point more in 2015/16 than Sherwood got in 2013/14), and real progress surely comes in the form of trophies, not endless promises of jam tomorrow.

Season isn't over till it's over. Make your assumptions and thoughts heard after the season is over.
