Tottenham vs West Ham

Article by Matt Wilson - @Yid4Life_COYS

After the International break, we face West Ham in the Premier League. Two teams who are struggling to grind out wins this season. West Ham, who currently sit in 17th place, have recorded 3 wins, 2 draws, and 6 defeats this season. Whereas, Tottenham, who are currently in the same old position of 5th, have played for 5 wins, and 6 draws, and, now that Carlisle lost midweek, they are the only team in English football to remain unbeaten (excluding the EFL Cup and Champions league).

Our last Premier League action saw us draw 1-1 to our next door neighbours, Arsenal. With Kane and Dembele back on the team sheet (and not forgetting Kane’s penalty), along with Toby Alderweireld expected to return. Our injuries seem to have cleared up. Unfortunately, there are reports that Janssen suffered a concussion for the Netherlands against Belgium, where afterward he said that he “lost his memory for 20 minutes”. Other than that, there have been no reports of any injuries to players on International duty.

The last time West Ham visited White Hart Lane, Kane scored for the fifth club game in a row to put Spurs ahead before Toby Alderweireld headed in from a corner. The England striker fired in his second after the break before Kyle Walker added a fourth for the home side, who also struck the woodwork twice. Manuel Lanzini's late goal was merely a consolation for the lacklustre Hammers. It was a classic London derby; in which we were the 4-1 successors.

However, it has not all been good with regards to this fixture. It was the last London Derby before West Ham moved to their new Stadium, and it was our chance to go top of the league, ahead of Leicester and Arsenal. West Ham hit early from a corner and saw the game out 1-0. In addition, West Ham have had a good recent run of form at White Hart Lane, seeing a 3-0 victory and a 2-2 draw (thanks to a Harry Kane 90th minute penalty) against Tottenham.

Growing up near Essex, I have a lot of West Ham United fans who I speak to on a regular basis. Their general consensus is that West Ham United will be getting top 4 this season, despite being out of the Europa League for the second year in a row and failing to create an atmosphere in their new, and free, Stadium. I have also noticed that West Ham fans are quick to jump onto the “Harry Kane is bad” bandwagon, despite outscoring their top goalscorer Andy Carroll by 15 goals in the Premier League alone. In fact, you could add up Carroll’s, Payet’s, and Antonio’s from last season to just match Harry Kane’s goal scoring tally from last year, despite not getting off the mark until late September.

Thank you for reading my third article for e-Spurs, make sure to drop a comment telling me what you liked, and didn’t like!

To anyone attending the game, enjoy watching what promises to be a fantastic derby, and keep it Tottenham! COYS!
