Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa - White Hart Lane
FA Cup 3rd Round

Spurs come in to the game off the back of a superb 2-0 victory over Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Wednesday that breathed new life in to the Premier League title race.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side now sit third in the table, just two points behind Liverpool and seven adrift of leaders Chelsea, so it’s now all to play for at the top following their midweek win.

However, it’s FA Cup matters that are the focus this weekend as Spurs welcome Aston Villa to north London with Steve Bruce’s side currently sitting 12th in the Championship table.

Poch Says...

"It's an important competition, the FA Cup.

"I'm sure we will make some changes. But I would like to go far. We need to trust all our players.

"It's a collective and we must make everyone feel important and part of our success and failure."

What are the odds?

Tottenham to win: 2/7

The Stat Attack

Spurs have won eight of the last nine meetings in all competitions, scoring 22 goals and only conceding three.

Aston Villa's solitary victory in the last 16 encounters came in the Premier League at White Hart Lane in April 2015, when Christian Benteke scored the only goal.

The two previous FA Cup third-round ties between the clubs both ended in away wins for Villa: 3-2 in 1903 and 1-0 in a replay in 1992 after a goalless draw at Villa Park.

Teams News - Tottenham

Erik Lamela is Tottenham's only absentee, with the Argentine midfielder still struggling to shake off a hip injury.

Lamela has travelled to Italy in an attempt to return to full fitness, having missed Tottenham's last 14 games.

Pochettino has confirmed he will rest some of his key players following a busy festive period.

Harry Kane could make way for Vincent Janssen with several other fringe players also vying to be included in the starting line up.

Teams News - Aston Villa

Steve Bruce has vowed to play his strongest side, despite still being in the Championship play-off picture.

Villa signed Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on loan in midweek and the 23-year-old could be handed his full debut.

Former Spurs defender Alan Hutton is expected to featured while Jack Grealish will be required to pull the strings in a creative midfield role.

Our prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Aston Villa
