Here we go again, the transfer mill is turning, and we are being linked with anyone and everyone. We’ve heard rumours about Lisandro Lopez, Thomas Ince, Christian Atsu, Younes Belhanda, the inevitable gossip regarding Leandro Damiao, unlikely Hulk stories, and many, many more.
Then there’s David Villa.
Typically for us Spurs fans, opinion seems to be divided about just how much of an impact, if any, Villa will make at the Lane. Really?
Some say he is too old now. Spurs cannot really decide against a player who is 31 years old, particularly when there are players such as Puyol, Nesta, Totti, Klose, and of course Ryan Giggs, who, frankly, all play at a higher level of competition than Spurs are used to, and all are quite a fair bit older than Villa. We also have to remember that Spurs have gone for players in the past at a similar age and are now classed as legends at the club. Both Klinsmann and Ginola were 30 when we signed them, and there isn’t a Spurs fan out there who regrets either ever playing in the lilywhite of Tottenham.
Some say he is injury prone. It may come as a surprise to these bewildered few that, until the 2011/12 season, David Villa had never gone a League campaign without playing at least 30 matches. He has had only one real injury in his career. Unfortunately it just happened to be a bad one. Surely I can’t be the only one who feels that after 8 months out of the game, 9 goals in 25 games isn’t such a shocking return. Certainly better than our current two strikers.
Lastly, people believe he may be a bit pricey. This I can understand, £12 million is a lot of money for a man who is the wrong side of 30, but this isn’t just any man. This is David Villa. One of the greatest strikers of our generation. The record goalscorer for possibly the greatest international side since 1970. A games-to goals Champions League ratio only slightly lower than that of the competition’s all time record goalscorer, Raul.
Add to this the certain merchandising turnover we would produce, the type of player that we would be able to attract just by having Villa on our books, and of course he is the sort of big name signing that just might prove to Gareth Bale that our ambitions match his own.
Signing David Villa for £12 Million? Yes please!
Besides, the last time we had a Villa in a Spurs shirt, something special happened.

Best article I have read on here, but we need a striker and he does fit the bill.
ReplyDeleteCheers!! Cool surname by the way!!
DeleteWe still need another striker besides villa though. I would cringe to see Defoe or Ade playing along side him.
