With the transfer merry go round starting to hit full swing and the rumour mill grinding away, let’s take a look at the top 5 Spurs Summer Striker deals in motion.
Spurs seem to be in a tug of war with Atletico Madrid for the signature of highly rated youngster Jackson Martinez.
The 26 year old Colombian front man hit 26 goals in 27 League appearances and could now be ready to quit Porto after just one season.
Jackson has had an impact at Porto similar to that of Falcao, however will he follow suit out the exit door just as compatriot did?
According to zerozero.pt “Cha cha cha” is valued at 28 million euros which, although it could be considered as slightly out of Spurs’ price range, some typical Levy negotiation might lower the bar.
With mixed reports coming out of Portugal, some stating that Jackson has not completely ruled out a big money move to a top club in Europe, whilst others cry out his commitment to the “Dragões” faithful, it is can be tricky to determine the outcome of this one.
Transfer Possibility: 5/10 (Price tag could prove too much)
A swap deal with Defoe plus cash has been mooted and I think many Spurs fans would feel that this would be fair, however we must consider how much extra cash is involved.
Benteke is good, great in fact, although the £40 million that has been loosely branded about by the fictitious market created by Villa is laughable.
At 22 years old he would tick all the boxes at Spurs as a young, combative centre forward with a Premier League pedigree.
Villa have stated that there has been no such contact for the Belgium power house and although there is no smoke without fire, the flames for this one look to be dying out.
Transfer Possibility: 6/10 (May not be allowed to leave)
The 28 year old Spanish international is on his way to the Confederations Cup to represent his country as the #1 striker due to his scintillating League form this past campaign.
Good in the air, excellent ball control and extremely accomplished in his linkup and holdup play, Soldado forms part of an exquisite generation of Spanish players.
A complete footballer with an excellent goal scoring record since he left the Bernabeu, Soldado has really hit the heights this season with 24 La Liga goals in 31 appearances.
According to Goal.com Spurs have tempted cash-stricken Valencia with 23 million Euros and this sort of figure could force their hand in relinquishing their most prized asset.
Transfer Possibility: 6/10 (Many clubs will be in for him)
Another South American has been drawing some attention with futbol.univision claiming that Spurs have made a bid of around £6.5 million for “El Chucho”.
Benitez expressed his desire to return to Europe following the league title success saying, “I am champion and now I wish to leave,” inevitably sparking a foray of interest from the Premier League due to his pedigree with Birmingham City.
Benitez could be the backup option should all other deals fall through although, as he is relatively affordable, he could play more of a squad player role.
With Spurs fans having their eyes fixed on more prestigious targets, this one might upset the crowd.
Transfer Possibility: 8/10 (Has Levy Bargain written all over it)
Damiao sits in the category of déjà vu with his name now synonymously linked with Spurs every time a transfer window is in session.
A natural goal poacher with excellent ball control and substantial pace, Leandro Damiao is heralded as the next super striker to lead the Brazil line for years to come.
Damiao is out for three weeks after an injury sustained whilst training with the Brazil squad and will consequently miss out on the Confederations Cup. This will inevitably give ample time for developments to be made for him to cross over to Europe.
Damiao’s agent has been doing the rounds praising Marseille as a potential destination (he seems to be doing his work to increase his client’s price tag).
The latest has it that negotiations to bring Damiao over to the Lillywhites have re-opened following the exit of Baldini from Roma, with it seeming likely that he is already on his way to WHL.
Transfer Possibility: 8/10 (the ball seems to be rolling)

Why is it every time some dick in the media links us to a player, everyone jumps on it. Nine out of ten players spurs are linked with is pure bullshit, but e-spurs an other websites don't mind spitting it out and filling genuine fans with shit!
ReplyDeleteAnd also, I'm tired of fans saying well we have 60 mil to spend, but 'a' for 15m, an 'b' for 20m an 'c' for..you get the idea. Its not football manager, theres a hundred and one verables going on that we'll never know..i.e 'players drive, attitude, is he happy, whats his family situation, is his private life trouble, agent, parents, sponsors, location, contract, fee's..it never ends! An watching highlight packages on youtube don't mean shit, anyone can look good if edited.
Damiao seems the one. At 23 he can improve, and if he adapts to snapping up the chances that our forwards have sorely missed over the years (particularly in 2010/11 and 2011/12 when we had a tremendous midfield without having to rely so much on Bale) then he could prove a 'legend'. The only thing that will put the iceing on the cake if we do get him, is pulling in a creative midfielder, and keeping hold of Bale.
ReplyDeleteIt will be hard replacing Modric but Levy must be prepared to spend up to £50m to get him and Damiao, whilst raking in money from the sale of 4 or 5 fringe players.
Hey tough guy,
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see you write an article as well as one of us. No? Instead you just want to post about how much we suck or are losers for writing about things we love. Sorry if we talk about rumors and other speculation here. Maybe you can just go away and leave the comments for people who actually are interested in making points or having some kind of real conversation. While you're at it, why don't you go support Le Arse or Chelski. Spurs don't need "fans" like you.
Sincerely,
Matt
Judging what Chucho Benitez did at Birmingham, he may have been good if he was signed the following season. Being top scorer in a mickey mouse league like Mexico, just isn't good enough to bring us into the top 4. Also, I'm pretty sure he's Ecuadorean, that's just for the writer for future reference. (Which hopefully won't be needed)
ReplyDeleteI think the best option is benteke as he's a proven premiership goalscorer playing with mostly average players, with spurs he could thrive on the attacking support he would get. To the first guy that commented, if you don't like to hear about transfer rumours don't read the articles. I'm sure most people would appreciate the analysis provided in this article.
ReplyDeleteso does this all mean Defoe is actually going to Palace
