It's Not All Bad, Is It?

Article by Chris Mecoy

Hello again, Spurs fans.

So.....off the back of another 3 points and it seems the mood amongst the THFC universe mirrors the atmosphere and performance from Sunday. Subdued.

In 3 decades of being a member of the Yid Army, I can honestly say I've never known Spurs fans (pardon me, SOME Spurs fans) to be this wound up after a victory.

AVB'S RANT

I'm sure by now you've all heard AVB's comments about the match being "like an away game" and that Spurs fans could "do better than they did". I for one feel he has a point. Yes, us fans are sadly known for being a bit fickle regarding the team, but we are also known for being a very vocal bunch.

The tension of the game, and the performance itself, did get the better of the attending Lilywhites, and we need to make sure we improve, starting with the League Cup match on Wednesday. Having said that, Andre, you and the team have to provide us with some sort of entertainment and there has been a distinct lack of that at the last two home matches.

4TH IN THE LEAGUE

Now, let's move on to the simple facts of the situation. We are sitting in the Champions League places, above both Manchester clubs, and the impressive Everton, and only 3 points behind the on-fire Arsenal at the top.

You'll hate me for this, but the scum DESERVE to be at the summit right now. Since their opening day loss, they have looked extremely good and everything is falling into place for them. The same goes for Liverpool, who have also looked fantastic so far this season.

We are sitting in 4th place, just behind the pair of them, and, aside from the Norwich game, we haven't even STARTED to perform to our optimum standard yet. Our best start to a Premier League season EVER, and we haven't even moved out of second gear yet!

Why the moaning? What's to complain about?

SOLDADO?

I truly feel a huge love for every Spurs fan I meet, like their is a major deep-rooted family connection between us, and yet it really sickens me to hear the abuse this guy is getting from some quarters.

Let me break it down for you:

He has scored 6 goals in 10 games so far. That's obviously a 60% goals-to-game ratio, or, for the decimal fans out there, a goal in every 1.66 matches. Not too shabby at all. AVB is rotating his midfield each week and Bobby will have to come to terms with the style of play of EACH attacking midfielder. He is isolated up top for the majority of games too, which is something which wasn't an issue at Vaencia. It's a new gameplan to adapt to, so please, give him time. So what if the majority of his League goals have come from the spot so far? Those three penalties have gained us 9 points this season already!

PERFORMANCE?

Yes, the performance against Hull was not our finest, but they did park the bus, which has become the norm for opposing teams at the Lane for the last two seasons, and there will be plenty more frustrating times to come because of this. If you insist on moaning, think about this.

In similar games last year against Fulham and Wigan, we didn't grind out the win, in fact we lost, and you don't need me to explain what those 6 points would have meant for us come May.

In closing, let me say that, while we have failed to impress a lot this year, we have gotten the win more often than not, and come NEXT May, we just might be looking at this Hull match, and thinking "Phew, what a win that was".

So come on Yid Army, stay behind your team and your manager, and let's try to turn the Lane back into the fortress it once was!

COME ON YOU SPURS!!

    I agree.
RE Soldado: I would go further. He has played 4 (yes FOUR) EPL games with either Holtby or Ericksen, or both, available (since the Goons game). In that time, he has scored two goals, made two assists and hit the post with an audacious back-heel. Some folk need to get a sense of perspective!

Not moaning. Concerned that whilst we are top 4 now, if we keep playing like that, we won't finish top 6. Have to play better. Let's be real. Villa we beat home and away each year. It was a good win, but expected, and unspectacular. Swansea, Palace, Hull were welcome wins, but again dependent on questionable penalty 1-0 winners. We blew Norwich away - great. But let's not get ahead ourselves as those guys are struggling big time. If any of those performances were against top eight opposition, we would lose. Got to get the system working soon. I would abandon rotation in the cup in order to work our system in as we are so far from clicking.
