Still Waiting……

Yup, we are all still here. Just waiting and wondering which players will come back to Enfield nursing some kind of minor injury they suffered while out on international duty. The fantastic part is that we have not had to wait too long before we got news of our first casualty in Moussa Dembele picking up an ankle injury and pictures emerging of that ankle being wrapped up on the training pitch. The Belgian’s injury probably has to do with the sheer exhaustion of playing almost 5 full matches over the past 3 weeks while others around him were rotated to keep the squad fresh. To me, it makes no sense that he was the player who received no type of rest during a very busy period as we all remember how he started to break down late last season which coincided with our late season swoon, yet here we are again, not learning from past mistakes.

Sometimes, AVB gets it spot on but I feel that this time, he got it all wrong. We need all of our players to be rotated and kept out of the physio’s room for long periods of the season otherwise we will end up outside the Champions League places for the 3rd consecutive season, which may well lead to a mass exodus of players. This is something that we cannot have happen if we wish to bring our club into the limelight of European competition and rub elbows with the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona, PSG and Juventus. I am sure AVB will find the right balance once we have a fully fit squad available for selection and there will be no more lacklustre performances such as the one we saw this past Sunday.

Young Lions

Congrats are in order for our two U21 stars, Tom Carroll and Harry Kane, who starred in a 4-0 win against mighty San Marino with Kane notching a hat-trick while Tom assisted on two of the Young Lions goals. While San Marino is no Germany, you can only play the opposition in front of you at a given time so seeing both of our two youngsters perform well on the international stage is definitely encouraging, regardless of opposition. Harry has been integrated into our first team and has looked quite lively in his late match cameo’s, playing primarily as a left-sided attacker or as a second striker, not to mention his cup start against Aston Villa. Tom, on loan at QPR, has long been regarded as one of our brightest prospects and now that he is playing regularly, albeit on a crap team managed by a complete butthead in a lower division, he has developed nicely and it is only a matter of time before he is a major part of our first squad.

Random Thoughts

-So we are sitting 3 points off the top, coming off a poor performance and after weeks of critics saying how we should be considered a dark-horse candidate for the title, we are now back to being crap and how we miss Gareth Bale or how Harry wouldn’t have lost to West Ham. Knee-jerk reactions are fun, as are fans that are prone to knee-jerk reactions but are any of these critiques actually warranted? That depends on who you ask. The realistic fans know that things take time while the Redknapp loyalists love to try to knit-pick and ignore the past, while emphasising the manner of our recent loss. Funny stuff these knee-jerk reactions are and I cannot help but to wonder how the small minds of those who aren’t rational come to such conclusions. This should definitely be studied by someone.

-I met up with an old co-worker the other day that happens to support Arsenal. I don’t really mind it. I actually enjoy the fact that we can bust each other’s chops while remaining respectful to each other and to each other’s club. On the other hand, I also have a neighbour who supports Chelsea. Needless to say, I do not interact with him in the same manner as I do with my Arsenal supporting friend. I wish his club and 99% of its supporters would contract a debilitating disease where they cannot play football or engage in racist banter towards others. He laughs and says that that is not the first time he has heard that and I am not in the least bit surprised about his revelation.

-I’m slowly converting a few co-workers into football fans. It has only taken me about 6 months but they are starting to get there. I felt like people should know this as I prefer to engage in conversation with other individuals who are aware of the beauty of such a simple game, instead of discussing strategies of baseball, strategies such as swinging at a pitch or throwing a ball hard. I’m telling you, real Einstein stuff here. But they are slowly moving towards the real type of football. I thank the Yankees for not making the playoffs, the Giants for starting 0-6 and the Rangers for getting hammered 6-0 last night. Results such as these make the conversion much simpler so please continue sucking, NY-based teams. You are definitely making me happy.
