Why not play both? I would have Eriksen play as the number ten and Holtby as the CM in a deep lying playmaker role. Then pair them with Paulinho as the DM and maybe we can start to create more goal scoring chances. Even Holtby thinks he is better suited (interview last spring) playing deeper. Teams like Hull are parking the bus against us and the need for a DM to just sit back above the back four is really not needed. In those games, I wish AVB would think a little more aggressively.
ReplyDeleteI agree perfectly with the above comment from Anonymous - i.e we should play both. Eriksen as No. 10; and Holtby instead of Sandro. I would also play Lamela next to Eriksen. In these three, plus Paulinho, Townsend and Soldado, I believe we would have the best combination possible for a decent attacking formation.
ReplyDeleteThe Premiership is all about physicality and very little finese; the system we play doesn't allow for any passengers; I believe Capoue or Sandro should hold with Paulinho breaking forward and Dembele in the 10 role in the first 60 mins of all premiership matches. This solid base will give all the creative players the freedom to run amok at any defensive formation.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see both of them playing & I think that Capoue was outstanding before his injury & I can't wait to see him return.
ReplyDeleteThe reason we don't play both is because we're playing away.
ReplyDeleteOur defence is second best in the PL because of Dembele and Paulinho (box-to-box) type players shielding us. Especially away, the main objective is to keep a clean sheet, and then a win.
But at home, I agree totally.
Holtby, for me! Even when he is NOT at his best he still one of the hardest workers in the team. The problems Lewis has had in recent weeks have been because the two in CM (Sandro and Paulinho) haven't been able to supply the German in the areas of the field that he does his best work. AND Paulinho is taking it upon himself to play more as a 2nd striker, than a box-to-box midfielder which isn't helping either.
ReplyDeleteInstead of timing his runs from deep, the Brazilian has been leaving his CM post TOO early to join the attack, and therefore clogging up the space in behind the striker, making it difficult for Holtby to find the room to do his best work.
Dembele MUST be reinstalled (next to Sandro) to give Spurs the guile, creativity and BALANCE ( in the engine room) required for the team, and the forwards, to excel.
Give Paulinho time and room, and he is excellent. Deny him those luxuries and he struggles to play with his head up long enough to pick out a forward in advance of him self.
Dembele does NOT have that problem!
It's makes sense when you think about!
Sandro and Dembele had a GREAT partnership last season, and it is a mystery to me why they haven't been given an opportunity to resume that combination this year.
Our so-called central midfield is too heavy, too slow. This inadequacy was fully exposed by the two top teams we have played, viz. Arsenal and Chelsea. The Arsenal midfield ran rings round ours; and so did Chelsea's in the 2nd half. So, therefore, we should remove this fault as soon as possible. For me, we should not play neither Dembele nor Sandro. They are not fast enough to link up with the attack. That's why we lack goals. Keep Paulinho as he's the more attack-minded amongst them, and also for the sake of the money we spent for him. Alongside Paulinho, play Holtby. This will give us an opportunity of playing both Lamela as well as Eriksen(in lieu of Sigurddson).
ReplyDeleteHoltby......LB!!?? can defend and work hard ....can pass.....and work to get ball back......option for free kicks.....maybe worth a punt seeing we're stuck!!!???
ReplyDeleteI hope you never become a football manager at any level -foolish comment!
