Many people anticipated a big name to be filling the shoes of AVB, and when Tim Sherwood; An unproven, untested man from the training ground came into the fold, many of the Tottenham faithful were heard grunting and groaning with uncertainty. The start that Sherwood has made in the big boy’s shoes is not a complete surprise. It had become quite apparent that AVB’s ability to man-manage was virtually null and void, so the new friendly face of Robin Hood (Tim Sherwood), has undoubtedly given the team a lift. After spending all of their Gareth Bale gift vouchers on a host of world class players, is it not now surprising to be putting a man of so much managerial inexperience at the helm of a crop of such players?

The problems arise through expectation. As every English man or woman can tell you. Every four years England will be winning the World Cup, but every four years we’re all left scratching heads and wondering why we’re bowing out with the likes of America. With the standard of today’s Premier Division, realism is a handy tool in the kit of a football fan, and it was in this vane that Daniel Levy appointed Tim Sherwood as Chief of the Lilys. Tottenham could have worked through the entire list of top vacant managers but the truth of the matter is that seven top new players have entered the club and I can’t imagine there was any towel whipping or head locks of camaraderie on that opening day of the season at Palace. Tim Sherwood was unlikely, yet the ideal candidate to allow this team to settle. Once his work is done, he will be quietly slid back through the ranks to make way for a name that can win things. He’s unlikely to be lifting the Premier League trophy as Manager of Tottenham Hotspur but taking from the rich and giving to the poor seems a wise choice on the part of Daniel Levy this time round.
