As the title suggests I love cheese. Don’t get me wrong not every cheese. My favourite has to been a really good mature Cheddar. There’s nothing better I think as a snack or as a drunken fumble for food in the kitchen as a cheese and pickle sandwich. Only problem is that cheese doesn’t love me back, in fact it strongly disagrees with me, so much so that we literally part company immediately. Even though I know this will happen, I still love cheese.
My love for spurs is becoming a bit like my love of cheese. Watching spurs play certainly makes my stomach turn over leaving me feeling rather sick, usually for 90 minutes. Today was no exception. Everton came at us in the first half just like City did. For 30 minutes we couldn’t get close to them. Do teams now see this as a weakness in our game?
Today for periods it seemed with Adebayor dropping deep that we had a 6 man midfield but still couldn’t hold the ball. I find this a concern. Admittedly the second half was better than the first but all in all Everton had 56% possession. They had more shots on target than us too, all be it 1 more and all 3 of their on target shots were in the first half. We had to wait until the 64th minute before we had a shot on target but that was a goal.
Tim said he had words at half time to make us press them higher up the pitch .We did it and we were certainly better. Scored the all-important first goal and were very rarely threatened after that. Although Everton did have a penalty denied but we have had our share of those in the past.
We were lucky some would say, but it was a win. We needed the win and we got it no matter what the stats say we won and we did it with a bit of grit and steel.
Grit and steel.....oh my god that’s not the Spurs way the purists will say, Flair and panache that’s the Spurs way. Grit and steel and a 1-0 win or flair and panache and a 1-1 draw or a 3-2 loss. I know what I choose right now in the fight for 4th. It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t fun but the job got done.
So Spurs have now become my Cheese, some things they do don’t agree with me, watching them can make me feel ill, but I love them none the less and no matter what will continue to do so.
