First of all, I’d like to say to any Spurs fan who agrees with the following article, that what I write is in no way directed at you. I’d also like to state that my views do not necessarily mirror the views of my fellow e-Spurs writers or its staff.
Right, a little about me. I was born in 1982, and raised into an almost exclusively Tottenham supporting family. I vaguely remember, at the age of 5, the F.A. Cup Final loss to Coventry. I adopted Paul Allen, an unsung hero of Tottenham if there ever was one, as my idol, a position he still holds for me. I became a season ticket holder as a 10 year old boy in 1992, and Spurs became one of the most important things in my life. I am Spurs through and through. My fiancée is driven crazy by how much I go on about my team, and I have a ten month old daughter, who, I’m proud to say, is already responding to watching Tottenham on T.V.
Yet now, early 2014, for the first time in my life, I’m slightly ashamed to be a loyal member of the Yid Army.
Is it the players? No
Is it the manager? No
Is it the chairman? No
It’s down to a depressingly large section of my fellow......ahem.....’fans’.
SHERWOOD OUT? You’re joking, right?
Now, I’d like to point out that, like many of you, I’m sure, Tim Sherwood wasn’t my first choice as manager. Personally would have preferred Michael Laudrup or Frank De Boer, but I digress. The fact is that Tim Sherwood is the man in charge, and he hasn’t really done anything to warrant being sacked. I’m not even asking you, I’m telling you.
No, we are not playing the style of football that many of us would like to see, but unfortunately the need for beautiful football does have to play second fiddle to getting the results right now. I actually hate myself a bit for saying that, but it’s true. Tim Sherwood is a man who is down to Earth, and is therefore fully aware that there are a large number of high-profile managers out there who want his job, so it is a case of ‘3 points by any means necessary’ as far as he’s concerned.
If you add to the equation a little fact that many of you have forgotten, the majority of recent Spurs managers can be sorted into two columns. Either they were managers who tried their best to implement pretty attacking football into the team (Redknapp, Hoddle, and Jol, for example), or they were managers that played dull football and won trophies (Graham and Ramos).
It truly hurts to say, but pretty football does not bring success.
Tim Sherwood has picked up 6 wins and 2 draws in his 9 League matches in charge. That’s 20 points from a possible 27, at a points per game ratio of 2.22, and he has made a better start as a Spurs manager than ALL who preceded him.
Let’s take into account Sherwood’s stats against the other managers above us in the same timeframe?
Jose Mourinho, a man who has had success wherever he goes – 23 points in last 9 games.
.
Manuel Pellegrini, whose team are most people’s favourites to win the title – 22 points in last 9 games.
Arsene Wenger, whose Arsenal side have been top for months – 20 points in last 9 games.
Brendan Rodgers, manager of a team who have now entered the title race – 17 points in last 9 games.
Tim Sherwood’s record is not too far off title winning form, and his points per game average would get 84 points over the course of a season, a total which is FAR higher than our current highest points total.
Now, there are many of us who accept these facts as true, and who are more than happy to give Timmy to the end of the season AT LEAST to show what he can do, but unfortunately, there is this growing number of fans, many of whom probably supported someone else during the dark days under Gross and Graham, who seem hell-bent on trying to make situations worse at the club than they are.
After last nights annihilation of a top 10 side away from home, Spurs are currently sitting 7 (YES SEVEN!!) points off of top with winnable games against struggling Norwich and Cardiff to come. This is after......no, despite of, an 11-1 aggregate thrashing at the hands of Man City, having our backsides handed to us at home by Liverpool, a 0-3 humiliation at the Lane against the average at best West Ham of all people, 7 new signings, from 6 different countries, speaking 6 different languages, AND sacking our manager halfway through the season.
These fans who are slagging us off can think whatever they like, but I for one am absolutely DELIGHTED at how this season is shaping up right now.
So, in closing, either support your team through thick and thin, or get the Hell out, because we don’t need you, we don’t want you, and the Yid Army will still be standing tall long after you’ve left!!
COME ON YOU SPURS

Absolutely agree. But I dont give a **** what other Spurs fans think, about Sherwood, Benatleb or anyone. I'm a Spurs fan and with that goes all the baggage. I take the good and bad and love it!!! Go to the blog by Harry Hotspur and see the absolute garbage that he and his 'mates' write about. They love the sound of their own arrogant voices and really you wouldnt want to spend 30 seconds engaging in conversation with self obsessed tw*ts like that!! COYS!!!

DeleteSo true about that Moron Harry Hotspur and his sheepish followers. You would think we were getting relegated and bankrupt reading the negative bile he continually comes out with.
DeleteIf the clown brained 'Boy Hotspur' is backing Sherwood to fail, then you can rest assured that he won't. Whatever Hotspur says turns out the opposite; he hasn't got a clue.
DeleteI agree give she wood a chance to do it I don't anyone with any brains who has ever played football would expect us to get this far with both the injuries and number of new players we have signed let's give him a three year contract who knows spurs better than him who is tougher and more straight talking is the football better than under avb I think so give him time and support and it will get better
DeleteSpot on!! John L., Denmark. Supporter since early seventies.
ReplyDeleteFantastic article, I support every word totally, the team have just played the best football I can remember since Bale went against Newcastle, Tim is doing great with his back room team, and the players are looking like only a win will be good enough each game. long may it continue....... Come On You Spurs.
ReplyDeleteDomestic loans by taking out a payday loans no credit check stores in the UK think there are many reasons for an individual. Thieves and Criminals charging 4000% interest just Loan Sharks in sharp suits...stay away from them. The law will change one day so they can rot in jail for the lives they ruin.
DeleteA little strong but absolutely true. I have never been one to criticise a manager prior to them having been given an opportunity to show what they can do. I think that even if I were that kind of person, after his first ten games in charge, Tim has proved he can, at the very least, hold things together for the rest of the season. The 1-5 mauling against Citeh aside (which was a shame as I felt prior to Rose's wrongful sending off we could have gone on to get something out of that game), Tim has steadied a rocking ship. His courage to promote Nabil looks a masterstroke, he has Manu playing at peak, in spite of the talk of basic 442 he seems to have a grip on tactics required. We all need to chill out, check our expectations for reality and IF we qualify for CL, all hail Tim as the next messiah! IF we don't attain the holy grail of football, we thank Tim for ensuring we avoided a mid season collapse and decide on the way forward. As Spurs fans it can be very frustrating, as Spurs fans we constantly feel in transition, as Spurs fans we always feel disappointed at false new dawns......I say as Spurs fans, we ought to feel proud of our achievements over the last 5 years or so, punching above our weight (thanks to the business sense of our Chairman), and competing where we have little right to do so. History alone does not give us the right to be "up there", sadly in this day and age it takes money and balls. I for one am pleased with the season and will continue to show my support without all the whinging. COYS over and out
ReplyDeletevery good write up, completly agree that some of our supporters are not giving TS a fair crack of the whip. During his very short spell it is clear to me there has been an imorovement in our attacking syle which is resulting in more chance and more goals since the dark days of AVB. Again i'd back you up and say im am over the moon to know that we are only yes only 7points away from being top of the table with just 12, games remaing in the league. Therefore what i will say is lets all get together and support TS and the boys because as it stands today the glass is half full. COYS
ReplyDeletehis refreshing honesty and enthusiasm is also to be applauded, learning as he goes as well which can only be a plus, not to mention knowing the mentality needed to win as a league winner with blackburn.....one life one love THFC......COYS!!!!!
ReplyDeletePathetic support from a section of the crowd. Who have a entitlement and right culture to moan and complain as they have paid good money to do so. It will never change until a new stadium allows a intake of supporters with a different mind set. Some people turn up for a show not a football match and should go to the theatre or stay at home and watch Eastenders. They cost us some point each season but hey ho its not there problem. Its Enic, Levy, Sherwood players etc. who are to blame!!
ReplyDeleteThat includes you Harry Hotspur
ReplyDeleteDon't vent frustrations at Spurs, go back over the last few years & remove Chelsea & Man City from the final league table. We would be an established CL side with all the benefits that go along with that.
ReplyDeleteHow can we compete with them when our record signings would be mere squad players at those 2 clubs.
I am a bitter man !!
Abramovitch & Mansoor have ruined football for the proper clubs. We should applaud Spurs for constantly finishing as high in the table as we do.
Will FFP make a difference? Will it ****.
Well done Chris, you are right let give Tim praise and credit in the way he is turning our season around. We were all saying that this was the best squad we have had for years, and dare i say it Timmy is starting make use them. Dawson remains a fine leader, but he's no Kabul. Midfield changes at Newcastle was a breath of fresh air , saying for months Coupe needs to play while the Beast is sidelined,Bentab is proving a very good find , Ady is up for it. Overall we are now beginning to look like a team playing with confidence and belief. Well done Timmy for standing by our motto (TO DARE IS TO DO).
ReplyDeleteI think TS has done very well and would love to see him succeed. He has my support. But I cannot stand people who tell me I cannot have an opinion which doesn't agree with theirs or that the club is always right, or you have to blindly support a manager who is obviously not delivering because it means I am not a supporter. When things are wrong, they are wrong and this PC-oriented, never criticise etc.etc id just BS of the highest order. The writer accuses people on another site of being so far up their backsides....maybe he should have a look at his own view..
ReplyDeleteAgree. Tim has done very well and talks perfect sense. At the moment I look forward to the future with him in charge and the ridiculous criticism is just ignorant.
ReplyDeleteTim has done very well. Strength to his arm!
ReplyDeleteFine article, how can people slag down our great club even after all their wishes came true at Newcastle?? It was not perfect but it was a huge step in the right direction...constant support may help it continue! If performances dip and someone's to blame then please feel free to criticise if you must, me, I'm gonna scream myself horse in support of my first love!!! COYS
ReplyDeleteIf this enthusiastic rhetoric could translate into chorus of noise on match day at the lane it would be amazing. I managed to catch a game last year after bringing my 3 kids, one for the first time, to the lane as we were visiting relatives in the UK from Australia. I was so upset, as I remember standing on the shelf as a young man singing throughout the game, almost always leaving with a sore throat. I sat with my 10 year old daughter, and all around me were quiet well behaved middle aged farts, not one of them or any around us in the east stand joined in to any chorus. Has the soul gone with all seating and gazillions of pounds for season tickets. I love this club but please those that are lucky, no, privileged to go to WHL on match days, sing, sing loud and don't stop. Regards to all in the UK COYS
ReplyDeletei wouldn't get so hung up on that fat head harryhitwhore or the boyhotspur as he calls himself. that gobshite hasn't been to the Lane in years, he does not support tottenham at all, he just blogs about our team, manager and owner to promote traffic on his advert driven drivel. he has a handful of cronies who talk nothing about football, they don't go to games either, just like fathead.
ReplyDeleteAgree with everything said in the article also with the comments on Harry Hatespur and his cronies, with "fans" like them who needs enemies
