Berahino bid smacks of Spurs desperation

Hold on a sec. Let me check that I read that correctly. £18m? For Berahino?

As Tottenham's transfer 'stragegy' stumbles and stutters, once again, into the final phase of another poorly planned transfer window, it seems that desperation is very much the word at White Hart Lane.

West Brom apparently don't want to sell their main striking asset. Strange then that they should make their rejection of the Spurs bid today such a public event. Let's be honest, the only surprising aspect of this is that Tony Pulis hasn't driven him to Enfield himself this morning baring in mind the ludicrous sum of money offered by whoever is in charge of transfers at Spurs this week.

Let's be clear, Saido Berahino is not a £12 million player, let alone £18 million. Yes, most English footballers are vastly overpriced, but please, let us not be the victims of the crazy over-inflation which currently infects English football.

West Brom know that Spurs are desperate, having once again left it so late to strengthen a side torn apart after a summer of departures. Levy knew in May that a striker would be needed. Pochettino knew in May that a striker would be needed. We find ourselves three months on and just 13 days away from 'Jim White day' and yet have we got our man? Come on - we've all been Spurs fans for far too long to know that this was always going to be the same as almost every transfer window during our great leaders tenure.

Paul Mitchell, we are told, was brought in to scout those 'hidden gems'. The players who may normally escape the radar from abroad and the lower leagues in England. Yet we've so far missed almost every one of our supposed targets and now find ourselves bidding crazy money for a guy yet to earn a full international cap or notch an impressive goal tally domestically. 19 goals in 72 appearances is not the record of an £18m player.

There have been five points dropped already this month which, had we moved in the market earlier, may have been reduced. Yes, captain Levy has kept Spurs financially stable whilst steering the good ship Hotspur, but isn't this the minimum that we should expect of any Chairman? The late, deadline day desperation and shenanigans have, no doubt, cost Spurs more than the few hundred thousand they had been trying to save in the way of penny pinching. Moutinho, Damião, Agüero....the list goes on.

Should we be surprised? No. Should we expect better? Absolutely.

Please, Danny boy, prove me wrong.

Well if he was our main summer target then perhaps we should have gone for him in you know...May, June time? Get him in for the new season, like Liverpool did with Benteke. And he's won them a game already!

Because the strategy would have been to leak stories to the press for a while to undermine West Brom's relationship with the player on an attempt to get Saido to agitate for a move. It can't have been the players agent staying the rumours for once, as he was dumped early in the summer. So Levy has to bear the cost of his strategy.

Despearation - I don't think it's coincidental that the bid goes in after the Soldado deal is finalized and announced..

  3. Desperation yes but what do we expect from Levy? he will never change and it's to the detriment of our team and season that he leave's signing players until after the season has started. He is obviously selling before buying in, so his net spend is in profit but what good is that if we want top 4? i would love to know what he is aiming for because by his spending i would say top 6, he wants top 4 but without the outlay and is living in a dream world if he thinks it's achievable when the other big 5 are spending masses to compete for the top 4. It's a cycle Levy keeps repeating time and time again and this time like others we will get robbed for a player we want and need as it's so late with 2 weeks to go, the players must lose patience aswell and that's when they(the better one's) start to want to move on to a champions league side and who could blame them and then the cycle continues? a bit of extra investment could of got us into the champions league a few more times and look how much money would come back in the coffers! old Danny boy just won't prise that wallet far enough open for it to happen! he will never change.

There's no point having a dig at Mitchell, it's not him that does business with other clubs.

not worth £12million, says the guys who reckon kane (with his 4 month career november 2014- march 2015) is worth 40+ million. Berahino is better than kane and would make your team alot better. WBA are'nt holding you to ransom at all, it's been widely known for over 6 months they wanted 20-25million. For an English 22 year old who gets a constant flow of goals in the premier league that's a fair price. WBA can ask for as much as they want, it seems you forget he is a WBA player after all. If spurs aspire to be in the mix with the big team perhaps they should act like one. Arguing over a few million whilst the likes of city go out and get they're men early doors, bed them in and have a good start to the season.
