Aston Villa vs. Tottenham Hotspur - Venue: Villa Park

If the the seven changes in Germany in midweek were to assist a title challenge, then it must be forthcoming. It's our sole focus from now on. Watching Leicester, they'll be aware the margin for error is decreasing.

We could be facing the ideal opponents. I watched Aston Villa capitulate at Manchester City last week, and afterwards Remi Garde looked a broken man. He can't legislate for players' lack of effort.

For Spurs from now on, it is all about the points.

As somebody that enjoys the Europa League, the team selection on Thursday was a long way from the one I wanted. I honestly feel we should have picked the strongest XI available. What should have been a great European night became an embarrassment. Much has been made of the performances of Carroll & Mason. For me, they were left battling a force that was impossible for them to cope with, and were hung out to dry by the performances of Chadli & Son who failed to press high up the pitch as Kane & Lamela do. That allowed Dortmund to play through us and with Onomah also failing to offer protection, there is nothing more Carroll & Mason could have done. 3-0 was the least it could have been as Dortmund had several other good chances, and we rarely offered a threat, Son’s weak shot, and possible penalty apart. Eriksen’s early shot was about the only time we were in control, and that was in the 2nd minute!

If Europe really does get in the way of the Premier League as the Europa haters suggest, I trust they will stick to that belief when we are in the Champions League next year!! I think the “so many extra games” opinions, will suddenly want all those extra games!!! The big clubs do not concentrate purely on 1 competition. They try to win every competition. It’s winning trophies that gives belief, confidence and gains your club that extra respect and fear.

We will all be happy with a top-4/top-3 place, but wasn’t it us that mocked Woolwich for finishing top-4 and never winning a trophy!!!

This Sunday gives us the perfect opportunity to put Thursday’s performance behind us. There can be no easier game than Villa, and anything other than 3 points would be inexcusable. And with Dier, Dembele, Kane, Lamela, Walker all rested, Alli returning from suspension, a comfortable win should be on the cards. Aston Villa is a total mess, and the players have had several run-ins with the fans.

I’m going for a 3-0 win, but please don’t tell me that a win at Villa is because we rested so many in Dortmund. Villa have lost 19 of there 29 games, have just been beaten 3-0 by their own youth team. If we win there, it’s purely because we are much better. And I think the starting X! in Dortmund was well capable of winning at Villa!
