Rumour of the Day 27.05.13
Leandro Damaio, the 2nd version of the rumour that never dies. Now that Joao Moutinho has moved to Monaco, Damaio is the longest lasting transfer saga involving the club. Latest reports are that he has been offered to us for 17 million pounds which is not far off from our evaluations.

Most fans know all about Damaio. He is a strong striker with deceptive pace and a goal poachers instinct. He is deadly inside the box and can finish with both feet as well as a polished aerial game.

Leandro fits in any of the formations that we deployed this past campaign. He can play as the #9 in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 as well as a lone striker in the 4-2-3-1. He is much more skilled than any of our current strikers and offers a combination of their talents. He can hold the ball up and press the defence like Adebayor and while also making the clever runs that Defoe does.

We are facing competition from Napoli and Atletico Madrid for the big Brazilian but our "partnership" with Internacional may help our cause. A bid in the neighbourhood of 15 million should get the deal done if the player decides to move to England.

Likelihood: 8.5/10

Seems reasonably likely but I think 8.5/10 is a bit high, especially after several past failed attempts to sign him.

As with our Tottenham,I'll believe it when I see it actually happening. While mr Levy has done a great job at Tottenham financially. In the matter of aquiring top end players, who cost that bit more. He is extremely slow in dipping his hand into his wallet. And as much as it hurst,is probably the main reason,we have ended up in 5th position yet again. That said,we still have plenty of quality at the club.

  3. I think our previous failed attempts at Damaio had as much to do with Internacional & the player wanting to stay for another year as it did with wages and fee.

As a die hard Spurs follower, I refuse to hold my breath on any rumour regarding Spurs bringing in first class strikers purely because we have been let down so often in previous years by the people who run our great club. Prudence is one thing, stupidity is another. All we get is a lot of lip service and hot air which I think is a smoke scree because these people have no intention of paying a million or two above what they believe a player is worth yet wont budge when attempting to sell one of our own players, always demanding top dollar. They fail miserably to see the bigger picture and the cause of our frustrations. We the fans can plainly see what is needed to take us to the promised land but constantly end up as laughing stocks. We are forever being told that Joe Lewis the boss of ENIC who owns our club is a multi billionaire but it appears that he believes money has a soul and will go with him to his grave into the next world.

Spurs are offering first team football for any new striker that they sign, with the World Cup in 2014, this is what most players are looking for in order to be recognised by their respective countries. So, I think players like Damaio and Villa will be more than happy to join Spurs. Plus Sandro is currently at Inter nursing his knee injury, clever tactics by Spurs...
