Best and Worst of the Summer Transfer Window 2013‏

Article by Marc Ashed

Best: We splashed the cash. Literally. AVB worked with Daniel Levy and Franco Baldini to identify the players he wanted and Joe Lewis agreed to back them. Over the course of a summer, we transformed the club into AVB's vision. We are ready to challenge for titles right now such as Europa League with our depth and our future is extremely bright with young potential stars such as Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Lewis Holtby ready in the next year or two to challenge for the Premier League. And, oh yeah, we made a profit this transfer window after buying 7 tremendous players that give us 2 complete squads and breaking our club record fee 3 times.

Worst: Throughout the whole Gareth Bale transfer saga, he dressed as a One Direction fan with awful taste. Gareth, pink straight brimmed hats and skinny grey jeans? Come on, man!

Best: Clearing out the majority of deadwood. Tom Huddlestone, Scott Parker, Jake Livermore had no part to play this year. Scotty "360" is gone which will help lower my blood pressure, Tommy Huddlestone may turn up at my recreational league games as the best passer in the league but also one of the slowest so I'm not too worried. Maybe I will sign him up when Hull City is relegated. Jake Livermore should stay at Hull after they get relegated, hes nothing better than a mid table player.

Best: Christian Eriksen for £11.5m is the steal of the window. I wrote extensively about Eriksen months ago as my #1 wish for this squad. Eriksen Article He is one of the best young players in the world and has the potential to be a world class no. 10 in a short amount of time. He is the complete package. The fact that Ajax coaches compared him to Wesley Sneijder and Rafael Van der Vaart says it all. To get him for the price that we did (due to an expiring contract in 1 year) is an absolute steal and could turn out to be one of the best deals in history of the club. Yes, that may be extreme but hes been one of my favourite players in the world since he hit the stage at Ajax and I cannot contain my excitement of him joining. He is just what we need.

Worst: Real Madrid's "strategic partnership". No Fabio Coentrao, no Alvaro Morata, no young players on loan, tapping up Gareth Bale into him forcing a move 1 year prior than expected and to top it all off, dealing Mezut Ozil to the Scum. This partnership has never suited us and they stabbed us in the back, the second after they got what they wanted. Please sign the #EndMadridPartnership petition here. PETITION

Best: Erik Lamela. The types of things that Lamela can do now at 21 get you excited for his future at White Hart Lane. He can score from distance, he can slide a diagonal through ball in the box, he can finish aerially, he can terrorise full backs with his dribbling ability. He is the ideal replacement for Gareth Bale at right wing.

Best: Franco Baldini. I don't think I have to say anything about this one. WOW. What a man, what a negotiator.

Worst: Willian and his agent, Kia Joorabchian. Talk about snakes in the grass. Willian was at Hotspur Way finishing up a medical with only a contract to sign and he went to the bathroom and came back a day later as a Chelsea player. We don't need a character like that at our beautiful club. Jose Mourinho is wary of our progress, coupled with AVB's tactical brilliance and he is a little scared.

We have a completely revamped squad and ended the summer as the Premier League's biggest spenders. Although we lost the Premier League Player of the Year, we added quality at almost every position on the pitch and raised the level of the squad exponentially. We have 2 for every position, and a minimal drop off between 1st choice and 2nd choice at those spots. We did our business before deadline day which made for a boring final 24 hours but its much better to get all of our targets ahead of time rather than wait around and bargain shop. It's exciting to see the talent that AVB now has to work with.

Please sign our petition, we want to present it to the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust and get them to communicate to the club that we are fed up with Real Madrid's treatment towards us. #EndMadridPartnership

The worst is definitely the Arse signing Ozil. Though I guess this will be a temporary woe once he realises that the Emirates Cup isn't a proper trophy, and seeks to move on in the summer.

Levy screwed up last jan when he should have got a striker in, we probably would have been in the champions league and kept bale, he blew it. He has done nothing special now either except make a profit. Just spent what he had to keep AVB happpy.

Team is as boring as ever to watch, awful not the tottenham way. He (AVB) looks bloody depressed to me hardly smiles. Bale was his get out clause now he has no one and will be exposed if he screws up with the team he now has in his possession. Also dont like his comments the other day, " I am not a tottenham fan" I am a "professional" working for tottenham. All a little ominous. Ozel will improve arsenal by a significant marrgin and liverpool also look to be on the up 5th is the best i can see us getting.

Carroll, Lamella and erikson are our future and young enough to hang around for a manager that will play the spurs way

Failing to get Willian was a blessing in disguise.

If we were to get him, would we still chase after Lamela? Probably not. Or Eriksen? Probably not. So in a way, I'm glad we didn't get him, and also he cost £30mil and he's not young.

Maybe a good player, but much prefer Lamela, and Eriksen than him.

I think the board are already more than aware of precisely what their "relationship" is with RM. These guys aren't chimps..with all due deference to Chimps!

Levy did a fantastic job. I believe he and Joe Lewis had a brilliant plan, and then executed it. Why keep Queen of Tarts for one more year? (His value might have dropped, for one thing.) Then, we would have just had to rebuild next year. Also, the delay in confirming his move to Real allowed Baldini and AVB to not get taken to the cleaners on our purchases. I'll not shed tears over Willian; he revealed his lack of character with his shifty move. Only 3 caps for Brazil tells you something, and he's what, 27-28 already?

  6. A 'strategic partnership' will be, more than likely, business and finance related, with perhaps youth development and scouting thrown in. But it will not stop a club selling players to teams we consider as rivals. Come on, what do you expect? They will say that they've given us over £110 million pounds to buy two of our players - more than recompense for losing them considering whom we have since bought with the funds - and that they are not in a position to turn down Arsenal's massive offer. The partnership doesn't mean the clubs hold hands and refuse to buy each other's players, as well as stopping each other's rivals from buying their players. That is an absurd argument and I certainly will not sign your petition given the work that may be going on behind the scenes.

  7. I respect all of your opinions and views. I believe that we need to petition the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust and get information from the club over this partnership. Then, we can make our educated decision on this matter. This petition, in my opinion is the only way to get the information that us fans deserve.

Well encouraging Contrao to come to us would have been a sign of a partnership

The worst of the transfer window is loaning Tom Carroll to the championship, when he is an excellent creative midfielder, that Spurs have been missing. Just as bad as that is buying more defensive midfielders. Two is enough. Now Spurs have four. They played three of them against Arsenal without a single creative midfielder and Arsenal made Spurs look like a pub side.

AVB is not a Spurs kind of manager and I look forward to the next manager who will hopefully develop skilful players like Tom Carroll and Alex Pritchard. Then Dembele, Paulinho, Chadli and Capoue will likely be moved out of the club.

Bale was irreplacable. Even if his value had gone down by 20-30 million that would have been captured by him helping us getting into the champions league and being higher up the table. So no financial loss there

i was Frustrated when we loaned Thomas to QPR for what?,he had what we need in the middle all we got was to was push him forward to supply the balls to the attackers. ,i'm sober by that decision to loan him.but we got the best of young talent that's at our disposal.Dortmund had the youngest of talents in their squad which i want us to implement in the future.
