‘Christian Erikseenn!! It’s becoming a habit this for Tottenham Hotspur’. So it is. For the fourth time this season Spurs had left it to the last few minutes of the game to clinch all 3 points. Swansea being the second home team to suffer a painful last minute strike from the Danish playmaker that is Eriksen. I can’t decide whether it’s impressive that this Spurs team delivers a full 90 minutes or if it’s still quite not good enough that it takes a full 90 minutes to wear mediocre opposition down only to win by a single goal.

However, a win is a win. I suppose we’ve distanced ourselves from the Bill Nicholson and Danny Blanchflower days where it was all about winning well, and in style. Although, saying that, Wednesday night’s destruction of Newcastle contradicts almost everything we’ve seen of Tottenham this season. A four goal thriller that saw Bentaleb notch his first ever goal for Spurs followed by Chadli’s first goal since being injured, another goal from Kane…and all topped off by Soldado returning to the score sheet saw Pochettino’s boys excel to the semi-finals of the Capital One cup where they’ll face Sheffield United.

In a draw which featured Chelsea, Liverpool and Sheffield United, Tottenham can easily say they got the luck of the draw for once. Let’s hope this Spurs side can emulate the success of Jaunde Ramos’ side back in 2008 which saw off Chelsea 2-1 to win a cup for the first time since 1999, which was also the League Cup. If we win the competition this season it’ll be the third League Cup 16 years. Impressive some would say…flattering to deceive others would say. It’s all perspective.

So, we go into the todays league game at home to Burnley in good spirits. We sit 7th, 2 points off of Southampton who are currently 5th and only 4 off of West Ham who are 4th. Suddenly a dodgy start to the season and a few recent lacklustre performances don’t seem so bad anymore.
