Kayal a perfect fit for Spurs

Article by Marc Ashed

It's common now that no matter what game that I am watching, I look for players that would be great in Lilywhite. The other morning it was Israel v. Portugal.

My blue & whites almost pulled off a historic win, only to be denied by a Fabio Coentrao goal at the death. I have followed Israel for as long as I can remember and this team has the most talent & coincidentally the most successful foreign players. The one that caught my eye today was Celtic midfielder, Beram Kayal.

Kayal is similar to Sandro in style with slightly more passing ability (Clip of Kayal in action). Former Premier League player, Eyal Berkovic described Kayal as "Perfect for British football. He is strong technically, very aware but really competitive...He will have no problem adapting to the style in Scotland - he will love the speed and aggression.

With Sandro out and Scott Parker ageing, it is time to bring in some more talent that is capable of shielding the defence and helping transition to attack. Kayal has become a favourite at Celtic and captained on multiple occasions. He starred for Israeli powerhouse, Maccabi Haifa until his move to the Bhoys and has had notoriety from a young age due to the fact that he is an Arab-Muslim playing for Israel's national teams.

He has been linked in the past 18 months with many EPL teams such as Norwich City, Liverpool and even United. He has not been linked with us but I couldn't help but notice how well his style would fit in at Spurs to give Sandro a breather & fill in when necessary.

What players do you watch frequently that you think have a part to play at White Hart Lane?

Watched him against Juventus and he wasn't good enough, made to many mistakes, too many loose passes and doesn't like it when he doesn't have enough time on the ball.

Not a top 4 Premier League player so not worth signing.

Anonymous thats one hell of a judgement based on a glance!

Kayal, when on form is absolute top drawer.

Hes been off his game for much of this season for reasons no one on outside the Celtic training park can say.

However there is a top 4 prem league player in there without a shadow of a doubt.

Put it this way - based on Ki Sung Yeung being a top 7 prem league player - Kayal is too good for anyone!!

  3. Celtic fan here. Kayal is no better than championship level. He's not even first pick for Celtic. His passing is nowhere near the level of Sandro's.
Were you drunk when you watched him.
If you want a class midfielder sign Victor Wanyama.

kayal not had best of seasons partly through injury but more importantly because hes not one of lennons favourites!would have him in team before brown, but browns a favourite!what he needs is a manager who has faith in him!!

Not a chance that previous message was from a Celtic fan, im a season ticket holder, Kayal this season has been rubbish to be honest, largely due to injury and the form of the midfielders keeping him out and not getting a run of games.

When fully fit, Kayal would easily fit in too of the majority premiership teams with the exception of maybe the top 3.

Absolutely brilliant player, don't expect him to leave fully expect him to take back his position when Wanyama leaves.

Hi Guys. Celtic fan here. Kayal would be a great fit for Spurs. He's struggled to get into the team this season as he's spent parts out injured, but when he's on his game he's untouchable. Strong on the ball and not afraid to make a challenge - also has an eye for goal. Doubtful he'll leave in the Summer though with the imminent departure of Wanyama on the cards.

i'm a Celtic fan and can safely say Kayal is nowhere near the level that spurs should be attracting.

i'm guessing you haven't seen much of him in a Celtic shirt lately, since his first season at the club he's been average at best.

Celtic have one of the best midfields in the UK with Brown, Ledley, Wanyama and Kayal to choose from. Ki was 5th choice behind that lot last year and is now Swansea's best midfielder. Wanyama is top drawer and could start for any English side without looking out of place. Brown's a leader and has improved a lot over the past two years but his injury problems are proving difficult to manage. Ledley goes unnoticed throughout certain games because of his style of play but is Celtic's unsung hero and Celtic are far weaker without his cool head in a game. Kayal has had a poor season but this may be a result of not starting week in week out because of how well the other three have been playing. Wanyama's far too good for Spurs. Can't see Ledley leaving Celtic for a number of years. Brown is mr Celtic. You can have Kayal at the small fee of £10m plus Gareth Bale.

  10. Celtic fan here as well and Kayal flatters to deceive. He runs around and looks close to the play but more often than not isn't actually doing anything. He is a shadow of the player that he initially promised to be at Celtic, and I don't consider him first choice or even my first pick sub. Feel free to take him!

But yeah - our goalkeeper is in the England squad, our entire midfield is coveted by the EPL and abroad and our strikers are always being watched. We're not doing too badly ;)

Celtic fan here( Spurs are my English team). Kayal is Spurs quality no doubt about it. I have watched Spurs this season and they have played brilliantly. I would say Sandro is better than Kayal but I think that Kayal would add a lot to Spurs game. If Spurs have the money (17million) then AVB should sign Wanyama.
Any chance of a swap deal Bale for Wanyama.

    Good luck to the Spurs.

to you spurs fans don't listen to the comments from the fans of a new scots team who play in div 3 he would fit into most teams in england if he did go south which i think he might in a year

Please, take Kayal and give us £5 million on the way. He's last in the midfield pecking order and has been off-form all season.

In kayal's first season at Celtic he looked like a world beater, so without a doubt there is a top class player in there, but due to some injuries Wanyama got a chance to stake a claim and he has looked like he could grace any team on earth.

This has left Kayal on the bench and when he has played he hasn't looked like the player he did at first.

For me Kayal at his best is Celtic's 2nd best player, but on current form he's down the list in what is the best Celtic midfield for a long long time.

Kayal thinks he is a much better player that he actually is. He can be very petulant and reckless in the tackle.

His first season at Celtic was good but since then he has been average. This may be down to niggling injury and lack of football but he never seems to grab his opportunity to cement a place in the team. He is relatively young so there is obviously scope for improvement.

He could play in the english premier league but I would imagine at the mid table level. If you want him, I dont imagine Celtic will be hard to deal with.

As a Celtic fan and someone who always looks out for the Spurt score , I'd have to say he's not someone who
would raise the roof performance wise. He looked a good player a few seasons ago but that's it as far as his CV would look! nothing special doesn't win or change z game with his performances! good luck to Spurs !!!

Celtic Fan here. Kayal is a really good player and seems to have found his way again playing for his national team. He gives 100%. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. But he would always give his all. Our midfield is packed with great players at the moment and his chances have been limited through injury and others shining more this year. Personally I wouldn't want to lose him if others do go.

  19. To the guy who thinks I'm not a Celtic fan because I think Kayal is not Spurs standard.......if Spurs sign Kayal I'll give £100 to a charity of your choice.
The guy doesn't win tackles, he can only pass 10 yards at a time, he's useless in the air, he gets booked every match because he think running around full speed and kicking people somehow makes him a midfield enforcer, his shooting is the worst I've seen from a Celtic midfielder and his goals ratio is about the same as Neil Lennons.
Granted, his first season he was probably going to be Scottish player of the year but he's not been the same since his injury.
Don't accuse people of not being Celtic fans because they have a different opinion to you.
Be interesting to read your views on why Kayal is suddenly a top four player in one of the best leagues in the world when he can't get a regular game for us when everyone is fit ?

    1. You said it yourself, "granted, his first season he was probably going to be Scottish player of the year". I wrote this up with that in mind rather than this past season since he has had a few injuries.

Thanks for the comments, glad you took interest in the post and hope that you keep commenting & discussing Spurs!

  20. I was observing that before this season, he was a leader on Celtic & with the Israeli national team, he has stood out. I will admit, I have not seen him this season for Celtic. It was just a thought that I had while watching the game that he would fit in as Sandro's replacement much more effectively than Scott Parker. They are not like for like whereas Kayal is much more similar to Sandro. He was linked in the past with the top clubs and I think some of his positives have been pointed out. He is not intimidated, strong, leads by example, brings his lunch pail to work everyday. I think his lack of playing time for Celtic is more due to Wanyama than his own ability.
