The names linked to us during this summer window seems to be a recycling of the same names from the past 2 windows. Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic is the latest recycled player to be discussed.
Pjanic is a versatile player (see the common thread among midfield targets?) who is a central midfielder at heart but has shown the ability to play in a more attacking role as well as out wide too. Sounds a lot like Lewis Holtby to me! He is 5 months older than Lewis but the Bosnian has featured for his country's National Team since he was 18.
His strength is his long range shooting, set pieces and he would be among the best dribblers on the team. That being said, he isn't a world class dribbler or defence "unlocker" so he doesn't fill that need. He isn't tough in the tackle and shies away from physical play.
This link made sense a year ago but his "jack of all positions, king of none" versatility is no longer needed with Lewis Holtby in the mix providing more grit and determination in the middle of the pitch that Miralem would.
He doesn't fit well in this team, AVB has passed on him before and with the price tag being above 12 million, this is a deal that won't be happening. Lewis Holtby will be incrementally better in his 1st full season in the Premier League and is already a fan favourite. The newspapers are getting bored and short of material already and its not even June!
Likelihood: 1.5/10
