The next Messi, the next Iniesta, the next Xavi. These are labels that Barcelona youngsters wear like a pair of cement shoes. Sergi Roberto has had the honor of being labelled a mix of Xavi and Iniesta. If he can play at 85% of the level that Xavi or Iniesta do then he will have a very long, successful career.
According to Marca, Tottenham have already opened talks with Barcelona regarding the transfer of the 21-year-old, who has supposedly “grown frustrated” with the lack of first-team options at the Camp Nou.
But buyer beware, for every Cesc Fabregas there is a Jeffren Suarez. Taking a closer look at Sergi Roberto, he seems more legitimate than flop. His scouting reports indicate that he is a tireless worker who possesses great dribbling and close control ability. According to one Barcelona blog "One could say he is an English style midfielder with Spanish technique". He's a goalscoring mid that can play any midfield position in a 4-3-3. He likes to receive the ball deep and go on "Bale-esque" runs through the middle of the field but he is equally adept at making late runs into the dangerous positions. Christian Eriksen, a personal favourite of mine as many of you know from my past posts, is likely to head to BVB Dortmund now and I am thrilled that he won't be at a rival club. Sergi Roberto is a similar type of player but with less pedigree.
More important than anything, he is an AVB guy. AVB wants Sergi Roberto and at a rumored £7 million price, he should get him.
One of the major issues throughout this season, is that the players aren't AVB's guys. He rotates left back frequently because he isn't confident with either, Parker is slow, Huddlestone had to wait 30 games to get a chance and even then it was out of necessity rather than preference. Giving AVB the players that he wants at his disposal is something that he has earned and will only make us a better team.
Adding Sergi Roberto to the mix of Christian Ceballos and Alex Pritchard makes our future very exciting. Our U-21 team has made it the final and Daniel Levy has earned kudos for building our youth system.
Sergi Roberto has immense potential and would be a shrewd piece of business, sounds like a marriage of styles between AVB and Daniel Levy.

There is no way Barca will sell Sergi Roberto to Spurs. Latest is that he's heading to Ajax on loan to replace Cristian Eriksen.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading that Adam Maher is heading to Ajax to replace Eriksen...personally, I think the only way that they sell him to Spurs is if there is a reasonable buy back option involved
