Next Spur Up?

There is no arguing that this season has been plagued with injuries. However, players have continued to step up and perform when they are needed most. Kaboul has been out the entire season, but Dawson, Caulker, and Vertonghen have kept the back line strong. Sandro’s injury was a damaging blow but Scott Parker stepped in to fill the important midfield role. Bale, Lennon, Dempsey, Defoe, Dembele, BAE, and Adebayor have all missed significant playing time this season due to injury, but different players continue to step up and perform to gain valuable points. This is a sign of team with a strong bond and a strong leader. Our team has truly adopted the Next Spur Up mentality!

Vertonghen leads Spurs back-line
This Wednesday will be no different. Dembele, Lennon, and Scott Parker are once again fighting injuries. Someone will need to step up to help get those 3 critical points on Wednesday. Who will that someone be? Who will be the Next Spur Up? In my opinion, the three potential candidates to be the next Spur up are Emmanuel Adebayor, Lewis Holtby, and Tom Huddlestone.

I’m sure everyone will agree that Emmanuel Adebayor has been a disappointment this season. He has struggled to score, has been inconsistent, and appears at times to play with absolutely no desire. However, he came in against Southampton and changed the complexion of the match. He made excellent passes to set up some good scoring chances. In addition, he worked hard to pressure Southampton’s back line. If not in the starting XI on Wednesday, he will be an important 2nd half substitute and could provide the lift we need.
Adebayor possible super sub
Lewis Holtby has not exactly made the impact that we were hoping to see after his January transfer. He is a high-energy player, a versatile, and creative midfielder. He has primarily been utilised as a substitute this season, but he consistently injects enthusiasm and energy into the team when called upon. He has filled voids at different positions all season and he might just get his chance in the starting XI with Dembele and Lennon fighting injury again.

Tom Huddlestone has provided quality minutes since Scott Parker went down with injury a few matches back. He is passing brilliantly, maintaining possession, and has done a good job transitioning the ball from defense to offense. In addition, he is providing excellent supply on set pieces. Although, he has battled injuries over the last few seasons and has not taken full advantage of his opportunities this season, he is a must start right now. He is healthy, playing with confidence, and in good form when we need him the most. I expect Huddlestone to make a huge impact in this match.

Thudd....Next Spur Up

I believe that Tom Huddlestone will be the Next Spur Up on Wednesday. I think he will give us a solid performance in the midfield and provide the push forward needed to create scoring chances in Dembele’s absence. Although he will most likely not score, my prediction is that he will provide a valuable assist, if not two, in this match.

The fact is that all three of these players and everyone else will need to perform at a high level for Spurs to win this match and earn those valuable 3 points at Stamford Bridge. Most importantly, Spurs must be firing on all cylinders from start to finish. AVB must inspire our Spurs to play with passion and energy. This derby may just come down to which team wants it more and Spurs must play like they want it more than Chelsea. There is no doubt that Spurs are banged up with injuries, but that is just an excuse. Good teams fight through excuses and find a way to win the big matches. This is the biggest match of the season and we must get 3 points! Come On You Spurs!
