Transfer
Rumour Bonanza!
It seems that we as
Spurs were destined to suffer. Someone must have made a deal with God
or the Devil himself to make sure that we as Spurs fans can never
have a simple, straight forward transfer window. I am sure this “deal”
makes it very clear that our best players must be:
1) Linked to
Madrid, United or Chelsea,
2) Reported that they are being held
against their will and wish to leave to win trophies or whatever,
3)
“Frozen out” of the squad or kicked out of negotiations by Daniel
Levy (sometimes referred to as the Devil himself) and,
4) Sad and
disappointed that their “gentleman’s agreement” with the club
has not been honoured.
Have I missed anything? Oh right, finally, that
the clubs being floated around as interested must go out of their way
to make it very clear that they are tapping up our players by using
past stars to state, “X player was born to play at Madrid/ United/
Chelsea”, or use their club funded publications (Marca) to
fabricate stories about how terms have been agreed or that the player
wishes to leave, without facing any type of consequence from UEFA. To
be honest, I think we as Spurs fans have suffered enough and it about
time that we have our day in the sun.
Bale-out?
I’m sorry, but this
whole Gareth Bale situation is a bunch of BS. Does any news outlet or
reporter ever do any type of actual research anymore? It seems like
the answer is a resounding no as this whole story came originally
from Marca, a newspaper who has financial ties with Madrid. They
started this whole plan to get Bale playing at Bernabeu by using
rumours that can hardly be called “news” and by hashing up old
quotes, some from the Luka Modric saga of last term. But this is
nothing new for Madrid as they have always been masters of the dark
arts and have long touted themselves as being able to do what they
want with little to no consequence. Look at the Beckham transfer, or
the Luis Figo transfer or even the Modric one. In each one, Madrid
has used news outlets to get the player and their agent turned by
offering boatloads of money, which then results in world-record bids
and transfer fees. The Modric one is the most recent so we can use
that one as a template.
The
More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same
"You made me a
promise. You promised me if we didn't qualify for the Champions
League and a good offer turned up you'd listen to it. Well that offer
has arrived and I want to play for Real Madrid. So keep your word and
negotiate. I'm not interested in Manchester United or any other club.
I only want to play for Real Madrid." –Luka Modric 2012
"You made me a promise. You promised me if we didn't qualify for the Champions League and a good offer turned up you'd listen to it. Well that offer has arrived and I want to play for Real Madrid. So keep your word and negotiate". –Gareth Bale 2013
Kinda funny, huh? Apparently every news outlet including the somewhat respectable ones, BBC and Sky, never felt like actually following up on this “breaking news”. Now I can understand that when the Daily Mail’s Adrian Durham writes such BS, it should be regarded as such, but when respected outlets create stories citing “Spanish sources” have all but sold one of the best players to ever don the Lilywhite jersey, it kinda gets me pissed. Is it so difficult to actually do some real journalism and research the story before it gets published? I mean, I know these newspapers want to sell papers, and that is the primary goal, but what if they were to make up some blatant fabrications about a murder or a kidnapping? I am sure the media would be all over them for such lies. Therefore, using the same logic, why is ok to sell players who have actually come out and said how much that they enjoy being here and playing under their manager? That is the real question.
A Bias Against Spurs
This is no conspiracy theory. Look at Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez. One has come out and said that he wishes to leave while the other has openly admitted that he enjoys playing under his coach. One is the reigning player of the year who happens to hail from the United Kingdom while the other is a Uruguayan who although being a great striker, has some major psychological and racial issues. One is on a giant billboard in Time Square and is regarded as the face of the Premier League, one is the second coming of Hannibal Lector. All signs point to Suarez leaving and this should be a massive story, the biggest one in the PL, as the leading goal scorer of one of, if not the top league in the world would be transferring to another league, one where his family is not subjected to the vile abuse they supposedly receive. Yet somehow, no one talks about that. Instead these so-called journalists focus on mere speculation created by a puppet publication with no actual sources to base such reports upon. Bale this, Bale that, Gareth Bale is ready to take a Spanish nap. The headlines are ridiculous stating such findings as “Bale returns to London for showdown talks” when in reality, the entire team was back in London from their Hong Kong trip. Or a picture of Bale looking sad on a coach bus or looking at his cell phone, which then gets put on the front page with the headline “Disappointed Bale Held Against His Will” without any real substance. If I wanted style with no substance, I would watch Liverpool pass teams to death while losing 3-1. It really is sad what gets called 'reporting' or 'journalism' these days.
Clairvoyant Analysts
To compound matters, almost every PL critic or football writer has basically made it very clear that Gareth needs to leave to fulfil his dreams. Former players such as Robbie Savage and pundits like Matt Law of the Mirror have all stated that he should leave Spurs as he needs to be at a big club such as United or Madrid to further develop and win championships. Granted, I do understand that Spurs are not favoured to win the league this coming season but isn’t it a hollow victory if one is to win with Madrid? I mean, La Liga really is a two team league and that is not me being critical of it, it’s just the facts. Even the once mighty United are not favoured to win the league this coming season as both Chelsea and City have re-tooled and are ready for the fight.
The truth is that no one knows what Gareth wants except for himself and the people closest to him. I am sure that he wants glory and championships, things that we cannot offer him at the moment but are we that far off of a realistic title push? In my opinion, if we do get Soldado and keep Bale, we can honestly be dark-horse candidates for the championship. Therefore, I find it funny that people who do not know Gareth somehow understand what he is thinking. Just because you work for ESPN does not mean you have ESP.
Final Thoughts
In closing, the media is jumping all over a non-story which is completely ridiculous. The systematic fabrication of this saga is blatantly disrespectful to Tottenham, Gareth Bale, AVB and Daniel Levy, yet no one will be condemned or punished when it is all over. Real Madrid are a big club, but to use underhanded tactics to get what you want is just a sheer abuse of power, one that needs to be looked at by UEFA and dealt with swiftly to avoid future issues. No one is above the law in football and it is about time Spurs and the other smaller, less glamorous clubs get treated the same as the big boys. In my honest opinion, I do not believe that Gareth will leave this summer and if we are able to mount a serious challenge, win a cup and finish in the Champions league places, next summer may be a whole lot more quiet than the last few windows have been. And that fellow Spurs fans, will be music to our ears.

Brilliant Article, totally sums up the situation. Every panicking Spurs fan should read this and ignore pretty much every other publication.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. Sums it up well. I've given up reading the so called quality press on this subject, let alone the blogasphere.
ReplyDeleteExcellent article.
ReplyDeleteThe same "journalists" and former players championing Bale's move to Madrid would be the same wasters lamenting the loss of the best British footballer to a rival league, when Premiership clubs fail in the Champions League.
I agree that Real Madrid's behaviour here is utterly scandalous, and should be punished severely by UEFA. But as you say, that won't happen.
But is this article no longer valid as it looks like it is incorrect, regardless of how well it is written?

ReplyDeletewhy did you remove my comment about bale telling AVB he wants to leave.
ReplyDeleteT.S. are reporting with ominous certainty that Bale has told AVB that he wants to leave for Madrid, they say this is a fact and not speculation. It's obvious they have an prominent insider at Tottenham, possibly a player. Gutted. Bale has stunned me. Will Tottenham now bend over for madrid? I wouldn't purely out of principle.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the love guys. As for the reported talk between Bale and AVB, again, it comes from TalkSport. They are about as credible as Marca. It's just sad that people believe them....
ReplyDeleteSlabs of text are too much to read. You need short paragraphs online, each one saying something different from the one before and the one that follows, to enable easy comprehension.
