Bald-IN-i. Paul-IN-ho. Any chance we could get a striker IN?

Article by e-Spurs Writer Chris Mecoy (UK)

“There’s a great midfield man from Brazil,
Who played for the Corinths until.
He signed for the Yids,
Now Paulinho bids.
To showcase all of his skill”

Hello Spurs fans. I’m sitting here in my living room looking forward, like all of you, I’m sure, to our kit launch later today and I am trying to think what name I could get on the back. BALE 11? or maybe a SOLDADO 9? It got me thinking about our close season dealings so far.

Personally, I’m really happy with how things have gone up to now. We are looking more likely each day to keep Gareth Bale, and there’s even talk of a new contract on the table. We brought in a world class midfielder in Paulinho which has given us a central Brazilian-Belgian trio to terrify most clubs in the land, and in my opinion, most important of all, we have the man Franco behind the scenes. I still believe that could prove to be the signing of the season.

Also, when you consider the amount spent on Paulinho and a very similar amount on the reported signings of the two Croatian lads, it also seems that once again, Levy is willing to spend some money.

Now I know a lot of you will say that he spent to much time haggling with Barcelona over the transfer fee of David Villa, but I can’t help but feel that this seems to be Levy’s way. He will try to save as many pennies as he can, but on the plus side, will also squeeze every penny out of prospective suitors for our current crop of players. He got £6 million from Stoke for Palacios and the money he got from United for Berbatov and Carrick has helped transfer a half decent Spurs side into a very good one.

Now comes the worrying side though. There have been rumours (and that’s all they are at this point) that Levy might try his deadline day dealings again in order to keep hold of a few extra quid. Now I think I speak for Spurs fans everywhere when I say that this is the sort of thing that is turning Tottenham into the Premier League’s nearly men.

If we can get a Benteke or a Soldado in soon, then the acquisition of a left back would be all we need to do before the season starts. That’s if we even need a LB. I really think that we are SO close to be the finished article, and it’s about time we complete the circle that will turn us not just into guaranteed Champions League qualifiers, but genuine title contenders as well.
Have a look at this:-

Lloris
Walker
Kaboul
Vertonghen
Benny/Rose/ New LB
Sandro
Paulinho
Dembele
Bale
Lennon
Benteke/Soldado

Surely there isn’t a Spurs fan on Earth who isn’t turned on by that possible, dare I say plausible, starting 11.

That team could easily win trophies, and with AVB at the helm, I only see success for Tottenham in the coming season.

With the way the club is set up these days, I am certain that the future is lilywhite.

THAT’S IF WE SIGN A STRIKER OR TWO!!

COME ON YOU SPURS!!

lennon is too one-dimensional, we need a winger who can add goals

Levy is getting too old, we need a younger manager to take the reigns

Er ..why, yet again, is NO ONE talking about the ONE HUGELY SIGNIFICANT move for a top 'PLAYMAKER'???
THAT is our PRIORITY. There are so many strikers in the market, that you know we'll come up with one or two (who can't do any worse than Ade and Defoe) before the window ends.
BUT ...the final piece in our jigsaw is a creative midfielder with whom the athletic and strong Sandros, Dembeles and Paulinhos of this world can play! The side above is strong but unbalanced and still missing the link (or final piece in the jigsaw) that a playmaker will bring. Then watch all the others in the team get freed up to be at their genuine best ..and even the great Bale himself will benefit.

That midfield has no creativity. It would be rubbish to watch. 3 defensive midfielders of whom one can dribble. None of them are creative.

Sandro, Dembele and Paulinho are all similar players. Sandro is the best defensively. Dembele is the best at dribbling. Paulinho is the best at getting into the box. None of them are good at setting up goals because that requires a player like Pjanic or Eriksen.

Too many bad buys at Spurs last season like Dempsey, Adebayor, Dembele and Sigurdsson. Now the bad buying continues. Paulinho is a top player at what he does but Spurs already have 5 other defensive midfielders - Sandro, Parker, Holtby, Livermore and to some extent Dembele. Why buy Paulinho when a creative player is needed?

Put Tom Carroll instead of Dembele in midfield because this would work much better with Sandro and Paulinho.

Pjanic, Carroll and Sandro would be the best combination.

Have Dembele, Holtby and Paulinho on the bench, as back up.

I'm sorry but I have to say that you don't have a clue about Spurs. AVB will get us play 4-3-3, Sandro, Dembele and Paulinho are probably one of the best in the world. The final third is priority but don't you think that the Spurs Board and our chairman Mr. Levy haven't thought of that. Benteke didn't fly to Germany today. He just handle his transfer request. Jese Rodgiges from Real Madrid. It's obvious what is going on. Spurs are extremely well run club, ambitious and on the up every year. All we need is a 20-25 goals a season from a striker and a versite winger that can switch flanks with Bale and score goals as well. 4-3-3 gave AVB unbeaten debut as a manager.

  9. remember sandro & kaboul are like 2 new signings...beasts the both of em but coming back from injury!?!?!?!? i agree with most before, personaly we should spend £30k on 1 striker keep defo and ade (and get a sneaky right fligher for £5-£7K to cover for Lennon. He is always gone for 20-30% of the season) LB is not an issue!!!!!!!!!

  11. First of all, how far away from full recovery are Sandro or Kaboul? I haven't read much, other than it could be OCTOBER before Kaboul is back. I wouldn't get too excited about naming a "First XI" as life rarely works out that way. That's why we have to build a SQUAD, rather than a TEAM. Given injuries, form, suspensions AND the need to adjust tactics, depending on the opposition, I'd be surprised to see the lineup mentioned above, on the field together, reach full-time in more than half-a-dozen games. Neither should we hope they do. We need to see some progress from the Academy graduates, such as Tom Carroll, Alex Pritchard and Adam Smith, otherwise, what's the point of investing in such a facility? We have a lot of games, so I hope they and others are going to get a run. Mentioned above was the need for a playmaker. One day, that role will be the preserve of Tom Carroll, for sure. What better way for him to hone his craft than to be able to train alongside someone like Miralem Pjanic or Milan Badelj? Let's get one of them in to balance up the squad - and then, with the addition of a couple of forwards, we could be ready to rock-and-roll.
