Welcome
back football
So
here we are, on the verge of the return of club football after the 2 week
snooze fest of Internationals, and I’m getting those goose bumps again. The
same goose bumps I had right before the Crystal Palace match have returned and
I cannot be more pumped. Tottenham are back in business and we are ready to
welcome those pesky Canaries from Norwich to the most beautiful football ground
in existence, White Hart Lane.
Blood Thirsty Canaries?
Strange as it
may seem, we have yet to beat these Canaries at the Lane and altogether, we
have a pretty poor record against them over the past few seasons. We were only
able to draw them twice last term in the league and they actually knocked us
out of the Capital One Cup with two late goals around this time last year.
Needless to say, they are now looked at as strong opposition and one of the
dreaded “bogey sides” that Spurs have trouble with. Christ Hughton has put
together one of the better transfer classes this past summer with shrewd
acquisitions such as Ricky van Wolfswinkle, Leroy Fer and Gary Hooper for
relatively low costs. Adding in some smart signings of Premier League veterans
such as Martin Olsson and Johan Elmander and a nice sprinkling of youth with
Nathan Redmond, they have added quality that should be able to keep them in the
Premier League comfortably for a third season running. Regardless of their
changes, I still feel we have more than enough quality to see off these pesky
yellow birds, especially playing in front of a packed Lane.
Spurs Tactics
I feel that with
Paulinho and Christian Eriksen playing 180 minutes over the past 10 days, AVB
may be inclined to leave them both on the bench and give Erik Lamela a start on
the right wing/ right wing forward. The backline will probably consist of
Walker, Jan and Daws with Danny on the left and the reason why Daws may get the
nod over Younes is simply due to match fitness. Kaboul will be starting soon,
but I don’t think it will be for this match. The midfield can consist of
Sandro, Dembele and Holtby, which would be a fine trio as Holtby can sit deep
when Moose goes on one of his runs and wait to play the perfect pass. Eriksen
will likely be a second half substitute in the place of our feisty German,
while Paulinho can take Dembele’s spot if needed. Up front, it will be Soldado
leading the line, flanked by Lamela and Chadli. I prefer Chadli as Townsend
represents an impact sub with speed and trickery which will be useful in the
closing 30 minutes against the tiring legs of the opposition. Plus, both Lamela
and Chadli prefer to play as inverted wingers and they can both move infield to
fire shots with their favoured feet and to provide space for our full backs to
get to the byline. The formation should look something like this.
In
Other News
AVB says that Coco Lamela can’t speak a lick of
English so it may take some time for him to get fully acclimated to the PL. No
duh. The kid is from Argentina and is fresh from Serie A. Of course he doesn’t
speak English, yet this is news.Adebayor is back in the news as Andre has spoken of Manu being on “personal leave” and that when he returns, he will play with the developmental group until he is ready to be integrated into the first team. Again, this is no surprise yet some are taking it as “Angry AVB Banishes Ade to Train with the Kids”. A negative spin on a story that has to do with Tottenham? No freakin way!?! Bottom line, we may never see Adebayor playing with the first team again and I know this may sound like welcome news to many, we still need a third capable striker and on his day, Ade can be a handful. As usual with Manu, it comes down to his attitude and if he is willing to fight and train hard to get back into the fold.
Vlad Chiricheş has yet to receive his work visa so he is still not fully registered and cleared to play for Tottenham. Funny how he is a full international from a registered EU nation, yet he cannot obtain a work permit while those classless bums down the road are able to get a player with two caps for Brazil, a permit with no problems. Now I know it has to do with Romania recently being accepted into the EU and work visa’s taking time as there was fear in the EU about Romanians and Hungarians moving to the other EU nations and doing all the low cost labour, but this is a guy who is going to be making good money in a highly skilled profession, well, except for those thugs who play for West Ham, so I cannot understand the holdup. Maybe we will have him ready in time to face Cardiff City next weekend, but who knows.
That should be it. Thanks for reading and let’s hope everything goes well tomorrow and the infamous “boo boys” don’t get a chance to turn White Hart Lane into a cauldron of hate and contempt. Here’s to 3 points tomorrow! COYS!!!
