SUPER SPURS up to Second, Eriksen rejected City and Levy Puts Pressure on AVB to Include Abdebayor.
SUPER SPURS up to Second:
Paulinho sent Spurs second in the 90th minute against Cardiff City with a superbly improvised back heel after good work from £30 million new signing Eric Lamela.
The Argentine superstar received the ball on the right hand side of the area before taking the defender on and slipping the ball in with the outside of his left foot to the box to box Brazilian.
Paulinho, seeing that the ball was sent slightly behind him, adjusted his body perfectly to collect and using the pace of the ball to back heel into the goal.
Dominance:
Spurs were far superior with 29 attempts on goal to Cardiff’s 5 whilst also recording 12 attempts on target whist the Welsh side drew a blank in that regard.
Tottenham’s dominance was also apparent in the amount of time they had on the ball with 64% to City’s 36% possession, a fair reflective on the overall theme of the game.
Cardiff’s goalkeeper, David Marshall deserves a mention as even though their side displayed an extreme resilience in holding off the Spurs onslaught, whenever they were breached, Marshall was always there.
Soldado and Siggurdson will both be wondering how they haven’t come away from the game with at least a goal following several excellent goal scoring opportunities.
Andre Villas Boas will nevertheless be happy with his side’s performance as they made sure there was only ever going to one team in it today.
Eriksen rejected City:
Christian Eriksen has delighted fans by starting that he chose Spurs over Manchester City as he rejected the Lancashire club last season.
The Danish play maker described that he was looking for a club which had the right fit for him, but that the Premier League was his ultimate goal.
“It took me a while to get to England because I said no a few times. Last summer, City really wanted to sign me, but it didn't feel right.
Maybe I wouldn't have played there - I wouldn't go to a club just to stay on the subs' bench. I didn't feel ready for a league like the Premier League, and now it looks like I moved at the right time.
A lot of players moved from Ajax in the last year and it gave me responsibility and made me grow. It made me better. It was exciting there, but you have to wait for the right club to come along.
I read about the history of Spurs and have seen games over the years. I know a bit about the club, they like a bit of creativity.”
Erikson has played well this season since signing for Ajax and his creative craft will surely send Spurs to new heights.
Levy Puts Pressure on AVB to Include Abdebayor:
The Mirror has it that negotiation guru, Daniel Levy, has urged AVB to include Emanuel Abdebayor in his first team plans.
Although Levy signed the Togolese striker for a fraction of the fee City paid for him, he is still on big wages at the club and Levy wants to see a return of investment.
Abdebayor has two years left on his contract and earns £85,000 a week, but even though Spurs broke their transfer record for Soldado, Levy wants him involved.
Abdebayor would have scored with all those crosses in 150 minutes of play, so I agree with Levy. Last season he had very little service.
