Spurs face a tough away day this Sunday against Paul Lambert's Villa. Although we won 4-0 at Villa Park in the Capital One Cup, Lambert is sure to field a much stronger side come Sunday.
This week e-Spurs caught up with Aston Villa blog The Villa Blog to get a Villa perspective on Sundays showdown!
It was a tough start to Paul Lamberts Villa career last season but he
seems to be building with youth. How do you think this will pan out
for the season ahead?
- David Moyes complained earlier this season that Manchester United
had a tough start. We had a tougher one and going into this weekend
we're on the same points as them. Sure, Manchester United are not the
same side they were under Sir Alex, but there are some States in the
US that our starting eleven can't drink in. It'll pan out just fine.
Who is the 1 Villa players Spurs should be aware of for Sunday?
- There is only one player you should be 'aware' of and that is
Benteke, if he plays because if he plays, he's a threat. Players you
should not take for granted though could include Fabian Delph or
Andreas Weimann. Both are having a good season so far.

Benteke has been out for a while, how much has this affected Villa
this season and what does he bring to the team.
- In fairness, we've done okay without him. He came off early in the
Norwich match and we won that and we also beat Manchester City and
drew with Hull, so there is a solid argument for why he isn't rushed
back, but if he does play and it is looking possible, then he brings
that element of surprise to the team that sometimes you need and he's
a big man that as well as scoring, does create the odd opportunity
too.
Who is the Spurs player that you think Villa should be most wary of?
- In fairness, you've got a few decent players but the one player that
always seems to cause us havoc and fingers crossed he wont be playing,
is Defoe. Always likes Defoe.
Who is the Villa player Spurs should be most wary of?
- Like I said above, Weimann and Delph are engines and they've also
got a little something about them that means they can win us games or
play a crucial role in not losing.
What is Villa's main strength?
- Team work. We're working well together at the moment and you'll see
on Sunday that we defend as a team and attack as a team. Okay, we have
done it and we do it fairly regularly but when we played you in the
League Cup, we didn't. Hopefully Sunday, we see it again. And we don't
give up.
What is Villa's main weakness?
- Inexperience. But you've got to start somewhere.
What is your best memory of Villa/Spurs games?
- Recent memory would be the 4-4 at your place in 2006 or 2007, it was
a match we really should have won but a match that I fondly remember
was in 1994 when Dean Saunders got the winner in right at the death.
We went 3-0 at your place inside 25 minutes but with 15 minutes to go
it was back to 3-3. Great match.
Predicted Villa position at the end of the season?
- I'm going to stick my neck out and say eighth. Only because I think
we'll bring in the one player that we're missing at the moment in
January and I think that will go a long way to cementing a top half
finish for us, which all things considered wont be bad. Disappointing
to be accepting eighth place, but it's the last season we can and as
long as we see the progress this season that we all hope to see, our
target for the season after has to be Europe.
and finally.....prediction?
- I've got to predict a win for us. Sorry, I know most will think me
mad, but look at it this way; if we do win, we go ahead of you.
A massive thanks to Damian at The Villa Blog for taking the time to chat to us!
